As a Spelling Method Provider, I spend my days helping nonspeaking and unreliably speaking individuals build the precise motor skills needed to communicate through letterboards. It is slow, intentional, and deeply deliberate work. It is also the most meaningful thing I have ever done—because every single speller has always had a rich inner world full of thoughts, opinions, and a distinct voice. They just need a reliable motor pathway to express it.
My journey into this space began at home. As a mother, my entire world shifted when I began presuming competence in my son and learning how to truly co-regulate with him. Watching him find his voice changed the trajectory of our lives, and it taught my daughter what it means to truly listen, respect, and advocate for others. My children are the heartbeat behind this work, reminding me every day that connection always starts with a regulated, trusting partnership.
I started creating lessons and resources because I kept running into a frustrating gap: families and providers deeply wanted to support their spellers at home or in sessions, but they lacked structured, practical, and engaging tools to do it. So, I started building what I wished had existed for my own family—lessons firmly grounded in motor planning, sensory regulation, and the actual mechanics of how spelling-based communication develops.
Everything in this shop comes out of real, everyday practice, not just theory. I test these resources with real spellers, adjust based on what actually works in the room, and design tools that respect both the speller’s intellect and the caregiver’s time.
