Many people have asked us lately about how RenoveRestorations came to be, and upon hearing the story, friends urged us to post it on Etsy as well. So here is our short tale. Three years ago my sister and I bought a house together and we couldn’t be happier to start life as independent adults. Yet, after all the payments around the house purchase were through, we realized that our budget for home furnishing and décor was nearly non-existent. So, we had to get creative and make the most of our tiny fund. We scavenged for affordable goods at garage sales, estate sales, second hand stores, and accepted many hand-me-downs; after which, we were left with a hodgepodge of things. Being avid watchers of HGTV we decided to attempt the DIY projects we saw on our favorite shows. In order to turn our mess of things into one cohesive design, we painted pretty much everything to create the farmhouse/ cottage chic style . After many mistake and some epic fails, we finally got the hang of it and completed all of our projects. Somehow we had managed to put together a cozy and chic home for a small portion of what store bought decorations would have been. Every single person that came to see our new home assumed that we had spent thousands of dollars at pottery barn, pier one, or restoration hardware. It was priceless to see the look on their faces when we revealed that everything they saw was previously owned and refurbished. We received so many compliments and requests from friends and acquaintances, that we started selling some of our left over pieces on Facebook. Shortly after we were introduced to Etsy and here we are today.

Now our goal to spread the word about upcycling and grow the business of buying refurbished or handmade items. Billions of goods are created each year and never purchased or simply discarded only after several uses. While that may seem like a normal part of life, the effects on our environment and ultimately our daily lives is enormous. The impact of mass production and distribution of goods not only has harmful environmental consequences, but it also directly controls how much taxes we pay on an item and how much that particular items has been marked up to make up for the cost of manufacturing and transportation. Recycled and hand-made home décor is our passion and our little contribution to society.
