Mon parcours en cartographie a commencé lorsque j’ai suivi un programme d’études supérieures en SIG au Centre des sciences géographiques de Lawrencetown, en Nouvelle-Écosse, au Canada. Pendant 15 ans, j’ai travaillé pour des entreprises d’ingénierie et de construction sur certains des plus grands projets d’infrastructure au monde, fournissant une expertise en SIG et en télédétection.
Plus récemment, dans mes temps libres, je me suis familiarisé avec une nouvelle technique de cartographie qui va au-delà des méthodes traditionnelles d’ombrage des collines communes aux logiciels de cartographie populaires. Le processus combine toutes mes parties préférées du SIG et de la création de cartes en manipulant des modèles de surface, des projections et maintenant le rendu 3D.
La première carte que j’ai créée avec cette technique était la carte topographique 1:1M de la Nouvelle-Écosse publiée pour la première fois par Ressources naturelles Canada en 1967. Quand je l’ai imprimé pour la première fois sur le papier d’art gravé, j’ai été époustouflé. J’espère vraiment que vous aurez la même réaction avec la carte que vous choisirez et j’espère que vous l’apprécierez accrochée à votre mur autant que moi!
My journey in cartography began when I pursued a post-graduate program in GIS at the Centre of Geographic Sciences in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, Canada. For 15 years I've worked for Engineering and Construction firms on some of the largest infrastructure projects worldwide providing GIS and Remote Sensing expertise.
More recently in my spare time I've become familiar with a new mapping technique that goes beyond traditional hill shading methods common to popular mapping softwares. The process combines all my favorite parts of GIS and map making by manipulating surface models, projections, and now 3d rendering.
The first map I created with the technique was the Nova Scotia 1:1M Topographic Map first published by Natural Resource Canada in 1967. When I printed it for the first time on the etched art paper I was blown away. I truly hope you have the same reaction with which ever map you choose and hope that you enjoy it hanging on your wall as much as I do!
