1897 Cycling Sweater Knitting Pattern: Victorian Reproduction Pattern (Digital Download)

This cycling sweater pattern first appears in the 1897 Butterick Delineator, and again in their Metropolitan Art Series, Fancy and Practical Knitting, published in 1902. Butterick was notorious for recycling patterns as long as they could be considered somewhat fashionable.
This pattern is for a basic late Victorian sweater, with two choices of sleeve. The shoulders and collar button closed. Sleeve 1 is more moderate in size than Sleeve 2. The sweater is designed to fit with about 4-6 inches of negative ease over the bust. Don’t worry, the 1x1 rib is very stretchy. Suggestions are given to better fit the sweater to your own body as you go. Pattern includes sizes from 32" to 48" bust.

Suggested yarn: sport weight. Suggested needle size: US 2 and 5. 2,000-3,000 yards of yarn required.
