The iconic Celtic style known as La Tène developed and flourished during the late iron Age in Central Europe and takes its name from the homonymous site overlooking Lake Neuchâtel in modern Switzerland, where thousands of votive objects in this peculiar style were found at the bottom of the lake when the water lever dropped in 1857.

Renown for featuring distinctive Celtic elements such as spirals, triskeles, interlacing forms, stylized animals, intertwined beasts, curvilinear foliage motifs, and repetitive abstract patterns, the La Tène art style is regarded as one of the most mesmerizing, intricate, and better-known Celtic art styles.
It spread all around Europe in a relatively brief time span: artifacts with a broadly coherent style can be traced across a wide geographical area, as far as southern Italy, Ireland, and modern Hungary, revealing the wide distribution and popularity of this magnificent and eclectic art, with its regional specificities.

This print is an attempt to condense some of the elements of this superb style, merging the sinuous lines embossed on gold leaf at the bottom of the Celtic bowl from the princely burial at Schwarzenbach (Germany, 5th century BC), with the decoration on the gold-plated bronze disc from Auvers-sur-Oise (France, 4th century BC), and many elements from the sheet bronze covering the Battersea shield (England, 2nd – 1st century BC), all framed in the well-known trees and plants that were sacred to the Celts according to ancient scholars, among which Pliny the Elder: the mistletoe and the oak.
