Handmade Boro Sashiko Patch: Japanese Linen, Visible Mending, Jeans Patch,

New to my collection of boro patches - iron on patches! These iron on patches add dimension to these sashiko patches and make them like little pieces of art!
I just could not resist these bright orange poppy iron on patches! I live in California and after all of the rain we have had this year, the bright orange poppies are coming up everywhere! The state park close to where I live is right on the ocean. There is a trail right by the ocean that is covered with poppies, so beautiful! Blue sky, blue ocean and orange poppies!

You will be addicted to finding jeans, purses, shirts, jackets and sweaters that you can put a patch on with these Japanese boro stitched patches!

I had tremendous success with making face masks with this woven cotton Japanese fabric. I just had to find a way to work with all of my beautiful scraps and came up with the idea of making them into boro patches. I purchased several books and studied this unique and creative way to make patches.

Boro is essentially the practice of using a simple running stitch ( a sashiko stitch) to reinforce a textile item using spare or would-be-discarded scraps of fabric. It is a practice that grew out of necessity in medieval Japan.

Attach the patch by either hand-sewing right along the edge of the fabric or turning the edge in and sewing to your fabric. If you need the heavy thread I use for stitching, message me and I will send you some at no charge.

** Please note that some prints will not be exactly the way they are on the patch. It will depend on how I cut the fabric.

* Each patch has machine stitching around the sides to avoid further fraying. I also apply fray check around the edges to help with fraying.

* If you wash your patch in the washing machine it will fray. I suggest washing the patches my hand.
