As an experienced educator, 10 Frames are one of my absolute favorite teaching tools. This one is extra handy as it has both a flash card holder and a slot which also holds the accessory tiles that come with the sets.

10 Frames are for much more than learning numbers 1-10 and counting! These can be used as a powerful mathematics manipulative tool that helps children build relationship with numbers which is far more impactful than memorization of basic number facts.

*10 frames help children "see" numbers and lead to a numeracy skill called "subitizing" which is when a child can visualize and know a quantity without counting its individual parts

*introduce the concept of composition (addition/multiplication) and decomposition (subtraction/division) of numbers - teaches a child the value of numbers and the relationships between them

*builds a foundation for place value

*introduces the base 10 system - the foundation of the metric system

*introduces the idea of multiples, pairs and different ways to represent a number e.g. 5 + 5 makes 10 but so does 3 + 7, 5 groups of 2 is 10, 2 groups of 3 plus 4 more makes 10, etc.

Use this 10 frame board with a variety of seasonal themes and loose parts of just about any kind. Another great accessory is a set of dice - roll the dice and see how the numbers form combinations. Add playing cards to make math sentences. Stack building blocks or Lego pieces to practice fine motor skills and counting.

This small insert is laser cut to fit in a small Ikea Trofast bin. It can also be used in the portrait orientation of a large Ikea Trofast bin or on any surface outside of a bin.

This insert, tokens and tiles are laser cut from maple ply. Wood inserts are not considered to be waterproof. Variations in coloring, wood grain and texture may occur between the pieces and we feel it adds to the natural charm of these items.
