Word Family Flipbooks are useful tools that can help emerging and beginner readers become stronger, more confident readers. Word families consist of words that share a common phonetic pattern. Ex. The “-ug” word family includes words such as “bug”, “hug”, and “mug”. Understanding word families helps children recognize patterns in language, making it easier for them to read and decode new words.

ABOUT THIS RESOURCE:
This resource consists of 25 3-letter phonetic word families. Included is a blank template to create additional booklets. This is a no-frills resource. There are no bubbly pictures or bright colors to distract children from its purpose, which is to serve as a tool for practicing letter sounds, blends, and to improve reading fluency.

HOW TO MAKE THE FLIPBOOKS:
Cut out the letter squares and word family rectangles. Position the letter squares on top of the word family rectangle on the blank space provided. Staple the booklet. That’s it!
