Oatmill Vest Knitting Pattern – PDF Digital Download

The Oatmill Vest is a PDF knitting pattern (digital download) for a modern women’s slipover with a stylish high buttoned collar. This DIY sweater vest pattern is designed for confident knitters and combines a classic look with a slightly oversized fit. Perfect for layering over shirts, dresses, or wearing on its own, this timeless knit will never go out of style. With clear step-by-step instructions and supporting video tutorials, you can confidently knit a versatile piece for your handmade wardrobe that you’ll enjoy season after season.

⸻

Construction

The Oatmill Vest is worked bottom-up in two separate pieces: back and front. On the front panel, the neckline shaping for the button band begins at the same level as the armholes. The European shoulder construction means the back is slightly shorter than the front, and the shoulder seams are shifted slightly to the back for a clean, tailored fit.

Once the body pieces are finished, they are sewn together along the sides using mattress stitch. The shoulder seams are sewn, the armholes are picked up and knitted in 1x1 ribbing in the round, and the collar is worked back and forth in 1x1 ribbing. Finally, button bands are knitted in 1x1 ribbing, sewn to the front edges, and completed with 5 buttons.
