Signed Hector Aguilar Silver Candle Snuffer - Mexican 940 Silver

This heavy silver snuffer makes candlelight even more romantic when it's being extinguished! Made between 1940-1945 in silversmith Hector Aguilar's workshop, this is an uncommon and exceptional example of Mexican design and handcrafted quality. Out of respect for collectors and those who prefer the current patina, this piece is offered in as found condition.
About Hector Aguilar:
Born in 1905, Aguilar began working under the famed silversmith William Spratling at the age of 30. By 1939, he had secured investors and opened his own shop. During the war years when metals were scarce in the U.S., Aguilar was commissioned to produce costume jewelry for Coro, a highly collectible American jewelry firm. In 1948 he opened Taller Borda, one of the predominant retail silver outlets in Taxco, Mexico. The firm closed in 1966, and Aguilar retired until his death in 1986.
