Prairie Dog Saint, "All Animals Have Souls". Prairie Dogs are some of my favorite desert animals. I often see them on the side of the road here in Santa Fe, and wonder how they can survive on the meager grasses where they make their homes. But there they are sitting on their haunches looking intently at the weather as it approaches or watching out for predators, or just chasing each other in a field. They have a language and can identify people by their looks and clothes.They are so very social, loving and intelligent. My little Prairie Dog Saint Icon is out in the desert night, chewing peacefully on a bit of grass. A Modern Icon because I include the Animals. I see them as equal citizens on this planet.

Prairie Dogs used to be plentiful, but they are unfortunately endangered now in some areas. There are conservation efforts and they do help. We build houses where they build their burrows, or farm and ranch on those great vast plains of the west, we all like the same land and views.

You can choose from either a large Animal Icon, @11.5x 6.75" or a small Animal Icon @6.25x 4.5". The design on the decorative Wood and Masonite Icon is my own, the image is a Prairie Dog print from my original painting, I then detail the print with gold acrylic paint and an acrylic satin finish for protection. You can hang either size on a simple nail from the decorative hole at the top of each piece or use a bit of ribbon or fishing line.
