Looking for a crochet project that's both beautiful and genuinely useful?

The Big Scoop Basket is a chunky crochet storage basket designed to hold all the things that never seem to have a proper home—blankets, toys, laundry, yarn, pillows, pet supplies, and everyday clutter. It's sturdy, modern, and works up surprisingly quickly using super chunky yarn held double.

One of my favorite things about this basket is how customizable it is. The sample uses a simple two-tone colorblock, but the pattern also includes ideas for stripes, ombré fades, contrast rims, accent stripes, or a single-color basket. You can even make it shorter or taller by simply adding or skipping rounds, making it easy to create the perfect basket for your space.

This pattern uses only a few basic stitches—single crochet, increases, and decreases—making it a great first home décor project. The basket is worked in continuous rounds with clear instructions from the base all the way to the finished handles.

Materials Needed

• Super chunky (#5/Bulky+) cotton or cotton-blend yarn (held double)

• Approximately 4 balls total (depending on colors)

• 12 mm crochet hook

• Stitch marker

• Tapestry needle

• Scissors

Finished Size

The finished basket measures approximately 16–18 inches (40–46 cm) wide and 13 inches (33 cm) tall.

Want to customize it? Simply add or skip rounds on the sides to make your basket taller or shorter, or experiment with different color changes to create a basket that's completely your own.
