Principaux détails

Désolés, nous n'avons pas pu traduire cette fiche produit en français.

Cressida is a contemporary fine art portrait of a red-haired woman enveloped in monumental floral textiles in antique gold, bronze, plum, rust and deep green. Inspired by the visual language of historical portraiture, textile arts and painterly fashion imagery, she makes a richly layered statement piece for collected, old-world modern and design-led interiors.

Available as a fine art paper print, gallery-framed print, framed canvas, wrapped canvas or metal print, Cressida is particularly powerful at larger scale.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Cressida is a portrait about the distinction we make between art and ornament - and the people whose work disappears inside that distinction.

Her immense copper-red hair and pale, restrained face emerge from an equally commanding field of floral pattern and fabric. Rather than functioning as decoration around the figure, the textiles compete for attention with her. Antique golds, earthen browns, aubergine, muted plum and mossy green move across the garment in oversized botanical forms, giving the portrait the density and richness of an inherited tapestry.

That tension is deliberate.

Cressida belongs to a world in which pattern carries memory, craftsmanship leaves evidence of the hand, and something considered merely decorative may reveal an entirely different history when examined closely.
She is part of The Portrait Archive, an ongoing collection of imagined women whose portraits are developed through narrative, symbolism, art history, material, color and character.

IDEAL INTERIORS

Cressida is particularly suited to:
• Collected European interiors

• Old-world modern spaces

• Modern traditional homes

• Arts and Crafts influenced interiors

• Sophisticated eclectic rooms

• Moody contemporary interiors

• English-inspired interiors

• Organic luxury spaces

• Interiors combining antiques with contemporary furniture

Her palette pairs especially well with dark walnut, burl wood, aged brass, bronze, antiqued gold, oxblood and aubergine velvet, moss and forest green, tobacco, parchment, warm plaster, marble, dark stone, patinated metals and richly textured natural fabrics.

Because so many colors are embedded within the portrait, Cressida offers an unusually rich starting point for an entire room palette.

IDEAL PLACEMENT

Cressida has enough visual complexity and presence to anchor a room rather than simply accessorize it.

Consider her:
• Above a sofa or large credenza

• Above a fireplace or mantel

• In a formal living room or salon

• In a dining room

• In a library or study

• In a bedroom

• In an entry or foyer

• At the end of a long architectural sightline

• Against a deep green, warm plaster or richly colored wall

• As a large standalone statement piece

Cressida becomes especially compelling at large scale, where the botanical pattern, hair, fabric and painterly surface can be appreciated from across a room and then discovered again at close range.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PORTRAIT

Cressida’s story begins with pattern.

She creates textiles in which small disruptions - a missing petal, a wandering vine, an unfinished thread - preserve evidence of the person who made them. Those imperfections become a quiet refusal of the anonymity so often assigned to decorative work.

Her story asks a simple question:
Why do we assume something is merely decorative when we have not learned how to read it?

The full literary story, curatorial interpretation and symbolism behind Cressida can be found in The Portrait Archive at Erin O’Connor Photography. www.erinoconnorphoto.com/portrait-archive/cressida

FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS & LARGE-SCALE PROJECTS

Cressida was created with large-format display and design-led interiors in mind.

Her unusually layered palette makes her especially useful as an anchor artwork: deep green, copper, aubergine, antique gold, walnut brown and parchment can each be extracted from the portrait and repeated through upholstery, rugs, stone, wood, metals and accessories.

At larger dimensions, the relationship between portrait and textile becomes considerably more pronounced, allowing Cressida to function almost like a contemporary tapestry within the room.

Interior designers sourcing artwork for residential or hospitality projects are welcome to inquire about sizing or presentation options.

CREATIVE PROCESS

This artwork begins with an AI assisted image generation process and is then individually developed and finished by me using the same visual judgment, digital editing, color work, retouching, compositing, and image finishing techniques that have shaped my professional practice for decades.

My background began in art history and curatorial work before moving into professional photography and high end retouching. I hold an MA in Art History and Curatorial Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and that curatorial perspective continues to inform the way I approach composition, symbolism, color, historical references, and the relationship between artwork and interior space.

The result is not presented as photography. Each piece is a digitally created artwork developed as part of an ongoing portrait collection in which every woman has her own visual language, symbolism, and story.

***Cancellation, Return, and Exchange Policy: Due to the custom nature of our products, we cannot accept cancellations, returns, or exchanges. Once an order is placed, it immediately enters production at our professional lab, which does not allow for alterations or returns. This policy ensures that we can promptly begin creating each unique piece of art.

***Important Note: Please keep in mind that the colors and appearance of your artwork, as well as the frame, may look slightly different in person compared to what you see on your screen. This is due to variations in screen displays and the different materials used for both printing and framing. These subtle differences are normal and contribute to the unique character of the final product.

***All listed dimensions refer to the width by height in inches of the outer frame. The inner image will be smaller to account for the frame and matte. For example, a 16"x20" frame with a 2" matte and 2" moulding will display an image around 12"x16". The aspect ratio will remain nearly the same with minimal trimming. Feel free to reach out for exact image dimensions.

Optimal Resolution & Viewing Distance Guidelines:
For prints viewed up close (within 2 feet): 200-300 PPI is ideal.
For prints viewed from farther away: Lower PPI is acceptable.

Recommended Resolutions by Viewing Distance:
0.6 m / 2 ft: 300 PPI
1 m / 3.3 ft: 180 PPI
1.5 m / 5 ft: 120 PPI
2 m / 6.5 ft: 90 PPI
3 m / 10 ft: 60 PPI
5 m / 16 ft: 35 PPI
10 m / 33 ft: 18 PPI
15 m / 50 ft: 12 PPI

Remember, print quality is affected by both resolution and viewing distance. The farther away you view the print, the less detail your eyes will need to perceive a sharp image.
