Renovation Material Calculator, Paint Drywall Flooring Estimator, DIY Budget (Excel + Google Sheets)

Measure each room once and get your whole shopping list, budget and schedule.

I built this for the part of a remodel nobody likes: figuring out how many gallons, sheets, boxes and sticks to buy. Type each room's length and width, mark what you're doing (paint, new floor, drywall, trim), and the calculator does the rest. Waste is added for you, quantities round up to what the store actually sells, and the list is grouped by store department so you walk the aisles once.

WHAT IT FIGURES FOR YOU
- Paint and primer for walls, ceilings and trim, down to the extra quart
- Drywall sheets, mud, tape, screws and corner bead
- Flooring boxes for LVP, laminate, hardwood, tile and carpet, with waste for straight, diagonal or herringbone layouts
- Baseboard, casing, crown, insulation, tile, doors, stairs, wallpaper and cabinets
- Deck boards, fence, mulch, soil, gravel and exterior paint

WHAT'S INSIDE (17 TABS)
- Rooms: measure once, used everywhere. Feet and inches or meters
- Odd Rooms: L-shapes, closets, bay windows, gables and vaulted ceilings, added to the room for you
- From Phone: measure on your phone with a free form, then paste the rooms in
- Shopping List by store department, with a check-off column
- Budget: estimate vs actual by category, plus cost by room
- Schedule: the steps in order with dry and cure times. One click adds a task to your Google or Outlook calendar
- Before You Start: 811 before you dig, gas and downed line steps, lead and asbestos checks, which projects usually need a permit, and how to find local trades
- Tools and Rentals, Records (paint colors and lot numbers), Photo Log, Standard Sizes and Settings

ALSO INCLUDED
- Sample file (a finished project to look at) and a blank file for yours
- Printable PDF: emergency and 811 page, how to measure, room measuring sheet, shopping list, paint record and standard sizes
- Job Binder PDF with tap-to-jump pages for a tablet or note app, plus a punch list
- Job folder layout for your photos and receipts
- 1-page Quick Start

WORKS IN
Excel (2007 or newer, Windows or Mac) and Google Sheets. No macros. Instant download.

GOOD TO KNOW
- Estimates only. Coverage and dry times are typical starting points, so check the product label and change them on Settings.
- It counts surface materials. It does not size joists, beams, footings or headers, and it does not cover electrical, plumbing, gas or roof work. Those are jobs for a licensed pro and your building department.
- Digital file only. Nothing ships.

How this was made: I built and tested the template myself. I used an AI tool (Claude) to help write formulas and listing text.
