1956 Bavarian Cookbook PDF — German Salad Recipes Vol. 9 in English: German Potato Salad, Gurkensalat, Fleischsalat | Babette's Table

This cookbook was a 1956 wedding gift to my mother. She's gone now — but her recipes aren't.

Volume 9 brings you into the Salate chapter — the salads of a 1956 Bavarian kitchen. Most of the salads in the book are dressed with one base marinade of oil, vinegar, a pinch of sugar, and fresh herbs, and the chapter sets firm rules of its own: favor raw vegetables, dress tomatoes and cucumbers only at the last minute, and dress cooked vegetables while they're still warm. This volume opens with raw tomato, cucumber, beet, cabbage, and sauerkraut salads, moves on to the warm German potato salad most Americans already know by name, then green bean and asparagus salads, and closes with two hearty mixed salads — an Italian salad built for company and a thrifty meat salad made from leftovers.

Each of the ten recipes includes:
