Party dress with wide velvet waistband and velvet striped organza

This gorgeous party frock has no maker’s label, but it was definitely commercially made. The fabric is sheer black organza striped with rayon velvet. These stripes are stitched on, close together for the bodice, more widely spaced for the skirt. Beneath the sheer layer is black taffeta. Velvet goes around the upper edge of the dress and makes the spaghetti straps. The skirt is a full circle, and there is synthetic horsehair braid inside the organza hem to help it keep a full shape. I didn’t show the dress with a crinoline beneath, but it could easily accommodate one. The wide velvet waistband wraps and fastens invisibly in back. There is a long back metal zipper. I believe the dress is early-60s in vintage.

CONDITION: Very good. The back waist seam had been taken out for alteration, but this was restored for me by an expert seamstress. There is a small hole in the taffeta at the back waist, but this is hidden by the velvet band.

SIZE: XS, about a US size 2 by my estimate.
