Artisan Screw Hook for Pot Rack Chandelier Ceiling Fixtures Iron Art Hardware Smooth Round Stock Hand Forged
Pricing is per hook. Offered in 5/16" Large and 3/8" XLarge. The difference in diameter is merely 1/16", but that small diameter change manifests in a notably chunkier, higher volume piece of hardware. The 3/8" stock is our heftiest hook. All Screw In Hooks are designed to anchor into a stud or joist.
Medallion plates are featured in a separate listing here in our Etsy shop. Rosette Medallions fit the base of both sizes., effectively hiding the sometimes messy hole caused by drilling ceiling board and visually add an artful background to the hook, accentuating its strength and beauty.

Artistically rendered, our hooks are visually satisfying. Every surface is brought to serve the Artistic intent as well as purpose and safety. And there is one notable element that sets these hooks apart from all the rest. It's that Penny End, hot hand Forged in round stock (with special Hammers and Anvil tooling) that leaves very subtle hand hammer work marks, but no unsightly dents and marring from chops that are supposed to convey the impression of hand work. These subtle Hammer marks are intended to make the Iron look like a living thing. Round stock, extensively hand Worked this way attains that, "Grew there" organic look and, practically speaking, the smooth resulting surface is less of a dust collector and is much easier to wipe down than typical rough square ironwork.
This form, combined with the surface color vibrancy obtained from Rustoleum metallic paints makes a statement with effect far exceeding what you'd expect from a mere hook. One high quality piece of Ironwork can change the 'feel' of an entire room.
To avoid the temptation on installation to hammer on these, you might consider drilling a pilot hole as you would with any lag screw. Easily capable of sustaining a load of 200#. Secure into a joist or stud or large masonry anchor. It’s there to stay.
See for yourself. Our Smith has been making his Original Screw In Hooks since the first set were made as part of a pot rack ensemble in the late Eighties, and as with all great ideas, it met success immediately. This Original is widely imitated but never equaled.
The Narrative:
Extensively copied, yet at first glance through closest later observation, these are just obviously the real deal. None has improved upon these in regards to strength, beauty and utility of form. Very dependable, this element adds a touch of class with far more effect than mere hook size and function would imply. The perfect compliment to the finest Wrought Iron chandeliers and pot racks.
Commonly illustrated, the Penny End seems so much more solid than the usual 'rat tail' scroll loop end, because it is. It requires much more time, patience, finesse and attention to details to produce. They do cost more as a result. We don't make cheap hooks. We produce satisfied customers who rave about our hooks. The Penny End is the ultimate in classy hand forged Ironwork, found on the finest Art grilles, furniture and illustrations. Easy to draw, but few Smiths even try to make this one, much less putting them on hooks in quantity. I have made, literally, thousands of these ends, each unique.
Small stock such as this require really rapid, precise hammering because it cools off much more quickly than larger bars. This sort of Hammering also refines the grain of the steel, improving it invisibly, resulting in strong hooks. This forging is part of the Art, working the entire piece, both inside and out.
These are the perfect replacement for cheesy chrome plated hardware that clashes stylistically with your high class pot rack, which was our original intent for the first set made from post consumer eye hooks. Ideal as a stabilizing Christmas tree hook that looks so good you won't mind leaving it up all year. Also, helpful in safely hoisting big trees.
Safety features are Artistically rendered into the design. The starting hook blank is not hammered out to a thin taper, as is how other scroll ends are made. This results in the hook being thin right where the load is held. The resulting hooks are weaker right where the load is supported. And wear, right where it is already weak, makes it even less likely to last generations. The thinnest part of this hook is actually in the twist, so if a hook is severely overloaded it will deform there, rather that the usual failure mode of dropping the load due to hook straightening where it is thin, at the curve.
I'm sorry to sound like a pedant, but I have been at this a long time and safety is my prime focus. I have refined and perfected these hooks and anticipate no failures. I know this for myself by testing all my hooks( and welds and etc) to ultimate failure. Regular hooks drop loads that don't even slightly deform these. These hooks are full strength, from their thickness and forging, right where the load is borne, also allowing long use in a high wear environment, such as a swinging basket. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR OVERHEAD HOISTING although, as I say, I do hang from my hooks to prove strength, my self weighing several multiples of anticipated use loads.. A final note regarding the wood threads. I buy and reforge commercial hooks instead of investing many thousands on thread rolling machinery. I try to use post consumer whenever I can find a supply, but not much to be had.
"Craftsmanship of Risk", in every regard, so there are subtle differences between hooks. If you would like a set of hooks, upon request I can match up very similar examples for the suite.
This Artisan hook has esoteric elements, for example there is a 'squaring of the circle'. Then that square is twisted, or circled again. Whimsically, it presents the contrast between similar appearing hand twist and modern screw thread.
