Doris Balmer 'Langdon Hills' Original Watercolour Painting Signed 1980s

This watercolour depicts the Langdon Hills Country Park located on a hilly ridge between a hamlet of Dunton Wayletts and a small village of Vange in the Basildon District of Essex, England.

The ancient woodlands with groves of trees, dense scrubland and meadows are painted in almost impressionistic technique to capture the fleeting quality and momentary effects of light and colour.

The open pearl grey sky, long shadows cast by the afternoon sun and a total harmony of colours complete this atmospheric autumn scene.

On the back of the painting there is a watercolour seascape which portrays the rocky shore, rough sea and fast moving clouds (please see the picture). It is full of energy and has characteristic features of expressionism.

The seascape is titled 'Light No 19', and it skilfully captures short-lived effects of light and colour.

The 'Langdon Hills' watercolour is signed 'D Balmer' lower right and the 'Light No 19' is titled on the back of the window mount. A label with the title and contact details is affixed on the backing board.

The painting, mount and original frame are professionally mounted, glazed and framed to enhance and protect the artwork. The off-white and olive-green bevelled window mounts are complementary in tone to the watercolour.

Condition

The watercolour, mount and original frame are in excellent condition (please see the pictures).
