ORIGINAL Watercolour Bird Paintings
WOOD DUCK DUCKLINGS
The wood duck is also known as the Carolina Duck and is a perching duck found in North America. The adult male is a very colourful bird – with vivid green and purple head plumage. The female will make her nest in a natural tree cavity or man made box, which she will line with down feathers from her belly. This little duckling's first voyage into the outside world involves a leap of faith from the tree!

GREYLAG GOSLING
Greylags are our most common native goose. They often become very territorial around nesting sites, chasing other large birds away. However, once the chicks have hatched, they all become friends again! A clutch of 3-5 eggs is laid in a nest on the ground, and the female will incubate these for approximately 4 weeks. Once hatched, the birds stay together as a family group until the breeding season the following year.

HOODED PLOVER CHICK
This little bird can be found in southern Australia, where you may find it on sandy beaches, nesting just above the high tide mark. Unfortunately, it nests when the beaches are at their busiest, and many of the nests are destroyed by people accidentally stepping on them. Some areas now protect the bird by erecting fences around their breeding areas, and providing them with shelters. Nevertheless, the chicks take 35 days until they are developed enough to fly, and they still remain very vulnerable until they do so.
