St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine, prayed devotedly - and tearfully, and fruitfully! - for her husband and son's conversions. A faraway ship on turbulent waters illustrates the distance between a prayerful mother and wayward child. May this painting and the words of this traditional prayer serve as a reminder that no matter how distant they might feel, God is ever-present and hears our prayers.

The text of the prayer is:
Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother, many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime, yet you never despaired or lost faith. With confidence, persistence, and profound faith, you prayed daily for the conversion of your beloved husband, Patricius, and your beloved son, Augustine. Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord.* Intercede for me, dear St. Monica, that God may favorably hear my plea for [_____] and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

I can PERSONALIZE this print for a beloved friend or relative in your life by adding "Saint Monica, Pray for ______" in the additional space on the rocks or in the water at the bottom of the print. Text is added by me, by hand, in the same style as the lettering within the painting.

This listing is for a 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 or 12x16(see note) inch print of my original, hand drawn watercolor illustration. Drawing and calligraphy were done by hand using archival ink pens on watercolor paper. Watercolors were used to add all color. Prints are professionally run on 100 lb, acid free paper using environmentally sensitive inks, and signed and dated by the artist (me). After careful packaging in a protective plastic sleeve with a rigid backing board, they are mailed via USPS in a document/photo envelope. 12x16 size are printed to order (thus will take an extra week or so) and will be shipped carefully rolled in a cardboard tube.
