You were absolutely right, the poor thing has been hard done by! Going to trawl a few antiques places I know looking for fabric, and there’s a fabric shop just off Oxford street I’ve found the good stuff at previously, but if I’m not successful I will likely run it up to a peplum with a longer back and a wee bit of stiffening, then add a longer bias cut skirt under in a contrasting colour! Definitely opening the neckline back up (got to be careful I don’t end up showing off my tattoo that says “front”!) so if I go the peplum route I’ll be able to use some of the extra to redo the facing in the neckline. It must have been absolutely gorgeous before someone hacked at it!

I am so glad it found you, it needed someone with the vision, expertise and time to restore it. It is still beautiful but needs bringing back. I had been thinking of a peplum style overdress with a full length slimline skirt is a silk velvet or satin that matched the gown, but i have never found anuthing in the right shade t do the work. x
