Difference between rings "attached" and "detached"
The image below shows the difference between "attached" and "detached". You can use expanding pliers or scissors to spread open the ring and remove it. After installing it onto leather or similar material, use pliers to close the ring back onto the shaft.

Exactly what I needed! I had a broken horsebit on my favorite vintage loafers and these were a super easy and affordable fix that I was able to do myself at home - no cobbler needed. I bought the open clasp version and was able to make the swap in about 5 minutes with 2 pairs of pliers. I could've been more careful and put a protective layer between the pliers and the new hardware, but they didn't scratch much from the pliers. Hope the gold finish holds up!
