Batik tulis is the most traditional form of batik in the country of Indonesia. It uses a technique called wax resist dyeing, and the entire process can take anywhere from 1 month to even a year. Due to the complex process and effort, batik tulis is the most expensive form of batik. The designs, motifs, and colors of the batik can depict the origin or region, societal status, and purpose of usage.

The uniqueness of the legendary Tiga Negeri Batik is that it was the first batik tulis which had dyes from three different regions of Indonesia. The main colors are red, brown (sogan), and blue. The red color was dyed in the city of Lasem on the north coast of Java, the brown (sogan) was dyed in Solo, and the blue was dyed in Pekalongan. Other colors such as green and purple were later introduced. Tjoa Giok Tjiam was the Chinese batik entrepreneur that made the Batik Tiga Negeri famous. The Tjoa family produced Tiga Negeri batiks for three generations—from the early 1900s to 2014. These batiks are no longer produced.

Care Instructions: Please hand wash or wipe fabric with cloth using natural soap or detergent. Do not dry batik directly under sunlight. If there are heavy wrinkles, gently iron batik using another cloth on top of it. Do not put perfume/cologne directly on the batik.
