Many of our fabrics are machine wash and dry safe, but not all of them. Please contact us if you need specific details. We suggest cold water and mild detergent.

Can I return an item?

Sometimes, it depends. We do not accept returns on used items, books, and packages that have been opened and handled, such as sewing needles. If you want to discuss a return, please contact us here on Etsy and we'll see what we can do.

Where do you get your items?

Nearly everything we sell is imported from Japan to our shop in the USA. We work directly with Japanese companies large and small to bring you unique and beautiful items, and we love working with small artisan producers in Tokyo, Kyoto, and other cities.

USPS lost my package! What do I do?

Please contact us with your concern and we will file a missing package report with USPS on your behalf. It takes time to locate lost packages, so please understand that while we are doing our best, we cannot find your package and get it to you right away. We have to work with the system just like everybody else. And that takes time!

Gift wrapping and packaging

We are currently working to phase out our non-recyclable packaging one step at a time. Many of our products come to us from Japan already wrapped in plastic, but we are working with some companies to reduce the plastic packaging on products we order from them. It's a gradual process.

Natural botanical indigo dyed cotton fabric on the top, plain white on the back with indigo dyed thread stitched through the layers.

Washed/faded/vintage appearance, but it's fresh and new.

Made in Japan. The mill that produces this fabric has been making kendo fabric for decades.

Yes, it's expensive! It's thick, dyed with natural indigo, and feels amazing.

What is Kendo? It's a traditional Japanese martial art that involves using wooden or bamboo swords. This type of thick fabric is used for uniforms (gi) which provide protection from bruising sword blows.

weight is 720 gsm (it's thick and heavy!)

Sold in HALF YARD increments - 18" x 51". If you want two full yards, order four half yards and we will cut as continuous yardage from the bolt. Fabric is 51" wide.

Approximately 4" X 3" swatches available, please choose from the dropdown menu.

Natural indigo MAY BLEED onto your laundry and other clothing, so please be aware and wash separately. Even when dry, indigo will rub off onto other cloth but should wash out.
