In a sea of cartilage piercings, the world is your oyster when it comes to choosing the right conch jewelry for you. For most people, studs are ideal for inner conch piercings, while conch hoop earrings are a popular choice for the outer conch.

If you’re just starting to get your feet wet in this style, the inner conch refers to the middle cartilage in the little cup, or “conch,” of your ear. The outer conch is a little more debated, but most people agree it is the area closer to the mid helix—still in the conch cartilage but near the middle rim of your ear.

Decorate your inner conch with dainty, cute conch stud earrings or complement a helix hoop with a conch ear cuff. Conch chain earrings can be a chain hoop that wraps around your outer ear, or use them to dangle a chain connected to another piercing such as a helix or earlobe stud.

Whether you’re running out of ear real estate or getting your first cartilage piercing, consider whether you want to decorate the inner or the outer part of your ear. For inner conch piercings, group conch studs into clusters of two or more for a unique and eye-catching piercing, like a pair of mirrored trinities or multiple marquise leaf labrets. For three-piece clusters, try a flower style with one large stud in the middle supported by two smaller wing studs. Make a beautiful constellation by mixing and matching conch studs with other studs along your earlobe, tragus, and rook.

For outer conch piercings, try a single or a double solid gold conch earring or dazzle everyone with a silver conch hoop covered in shiny gemstones. Mix the styles with one solid hoop and one gemstone hoop, or use a chain conch earring mixed with a gemstone hoop for a luxurious look.

Orbital piercings and conch piercings are often mistaken for the same thing, but there is one significant difference: An orbital has two piercings connected by a ring while a conch is a single piercing with a ring. Both styles are eye-catching additions to a collection of ear adornments and are available on Etsy in various sizes and materials.
