¡¡¡No queda ninguna fibra atrás!!!
No Fiber Left Behind!!
Empecé a trabajar con fibra en los años 70 y fabriqué muchos chalecos Grandma Square que eran muy populares en ese momento. Todavía me río de la cantidad de combinaciones de colores que tenía.
¿Quién habría pensado que volverían a ganar popularidad?
Una vez que me jubilé de la docencia, el tejido entró en mi vida. A medida que mis habilidades fueron creciendo, también lo hizo mi interés por todo lo relacionado con las fibras.
Lo que más recuerdo es que, al mirar los libros de One Skein Wonders, los patrones que más me atrajeron fueron los que usaban hilo hilado a mano. Entonces, surgió la necesidad de aprender a hilar.
Luego, comencé a incursionar en teñir lana con Kool-Aid y me embarqué en otra nueva experiencia de aprendizaje. Iba a una tienda de lanas local y compraba 4 onzas de lana peinada Falkland que luego teñía, la convertía en hilo y tejía un pequeño gorro y guantes para un niño. Una vez compré medio kilo de fibra y pensé: Dios mío, ¿qué voy a hacer con tanta lana? No debería sorprender que ahora muchas partes de mi casa estén invadidas por equipos para lana y fibra.
Después de enterarme de la Phat Fiber Box, que contiene muestras de hilo y fibra teñidos a mano, pensé que me encantaría formar parte de esta comunidad. Me dijeron que necesitaba una tienda Etsy para participar, así nació "Friends in Fiber". Al asignarme un tema cada mes, mi imaginación se vio desafiada a crear combinaciones de colores que representaran esos temas. Muchas de estas combinaciones de colores siguen siendo populares y están disponibles en la tienda.
Mi amor por todo lo relacionado con la fibra continúa creciendo y me brinda alegría y satisfacción al crear nuevas combinaciones de colores, hilar fibras y tejer, tejer a máquina o fieltrar con ellas.
I started working with fiber in the 1970's and made many Granny Square vests which were quite popular at the time. Still laugh about how many color combinations I had.
Who would have thought that they would rise again in popularity?
Once I retired from teaching, knitting entered my life. As my skills grew so did my interest in all things fiber.
I remember most that while looking at the One Skein Wonders books, the patterns I was most drawn to used handspun yarn. So, then came the need to learn to spin.
Next, I started dabbling with dyeing wool top with Kool-Aid and I was off on another new learning experience. I would go to a local wool shop and buy 4 Oz. of Falkland combed top which I then dyed, spun into yarn and knit a little hat and mittens for a child. Once I bought a pound of fiber and thought OMG what am I going to do with so much wool? It shouldn't be shocking that now many parts of my home have been overtaken with wool and fiber equipment.
After hearing about the Phat Fiber Box containing samples of hand dyed yarn and fiber, I thought I would love to be part of this community. I was told that I needed an Etsy shop to participate so "Friends in Fiber" was born. By being assigned a theme every month my imagination was challenged to create colorways to represent the themes. Many of these colorways are still popular and available in the shop.
My love for all things fiber continues to grow and bring me joy and satisfaction in creating new colorways, spinning fiber and knitting, weaving or felting with it.
