Geen vezels meer over!
No Fiber Left Behind!!
Ik begon in de jaren 70 met vezels te werken en maakte veel Grandma Square vesten die toen erg populair waren. Ik moet nog steeds lachen om de vele kleurencombinaties die ik had.
Wie had gedacht dat ze weer populair zouden worden?
Toen ik stopte met lesgeven, kwam breien in mijn leven. Naarmate mijn vaardigheden groeiden, groeide ook mijn interesse in alles wat met vezels te maken heeft.
Ik herinner me vooral dat toen ik naar de One Skein Wonders-boeken keek, de patronen waar ik het meest door aangetrokken werd handgesponnen garen gebruikten. Dus toen kwam de behoefte om te leren spinnen.
Vervolgens begon ik te experimenteren met het verven van wollen tops met Kool-Aid en ik was op weg naar een nieuwe leerervaring. Ik ging naar een lokale wolwinkel en kocht 4 Oz. Falkland gekamde tops die ik vervolgens verfde, tot garen spinde en een kleine muts en wanten voor een kind breide. Een keer kocht ik een pond vezels en dacht OMG wat ga ik met zoveel wol doen? Het zou niet schokkend moeten zijn dat nu veel delen van mijn huis zijn overgenomen door wol en vezelapparatuur.
Nadat ik hoorde over de Phat Fiber Box met samples van handgeverfd garen en vezels, dacht ik dat ik graag deel zou uitmaken van deze community. Ik kreeg te horen dat ik een Etsy-winkel nodig had om mee te doen, dus "Friends in Fiber" werd geboren. Doordat ik elke maand een thema toegewezen kreeg, werd mijn fantasie uitgedaagd om kleurstellingen te creëren die de thema's vertegenwoordigden. Veel van deze kleurstellingen zijn nog steeds populair en verkrijgbaar in de winkel.
Mijn liefde voor alles wat met vezels te maken heeft, blijft groeien en het geeft mij vreugde en voldoening om nieuwe kleuren te creëren, vezels te spinnen en ermee te breien, weven of vilten.

Who would have thought that they would rise again in popularity?
Once I retired from teaching, knitting entered my life. As my skills grew so did my interest in all things fiber.
I remember most that while looking at the One Skein Wonders books, the patterns I was most drawn to used handspun yarn. So, then came the need to learn to spin.
Next, I started dabbling with dyeing wool top with Kool-Aid and I was off on another new learning experience. I would go to a local wool shop and buy 4 Oz. of Falkland combed top which I then dyed, spun into yarn and knit a little hat and mittens for a child. Once I bought a pound of fiber and thought OMG what am I going to do with so much wool? It shouldn't be shocking that now many parts of my home have been overtaken with wool and fiber equipment.
After hearing about the Phat Fiber Box containing samples of hand dyed yarn and fiber, I thought I would love to be part of this community. I was told that I needed an Etsy shop to participate so "Friends in Fiber" was born. By being assigned a theme every month my imagination was challenged to create colorways to represent the themes. Many of these colorways are still popular and available in the shop.
My love for all things fiber continues to grow and bring me joy and satisfaction in creating new colorways, spinning fiber and knitting, weaving or felting with it.
