How it all started
Dès la première fois que j’ai vu une 'shevitza' bulgare, j’ai été émerveillée par sa beauté et sa grâce, par le temps et la précision mis dans la fabrication de la broderie et par la variété des couleurs et l’harmonie dans la composition. J’étais impatient d’en apprendre davantage sur le sens empêtré dans les formes mystérieuses et de sentir l’énergie qui en découle.
La 'shevitza' bulgare fait partie de notre folklore et est utilisée pour orner les vêtements traditionnels bulgares appelés 'nosiya'. On croit que ces symboles apportent protection et bien-être à celui qui les porte. Chaque symbole a sa propre signification, mais en général, ils ont tous un impact positif. L’autre chose intéressante est que les différentes régions de Bulgarie ont différents types de « shevitza » - ils peuvent varier en couleur et en forme.
Ma passion pour la « shevitza » bulgare a été réveillée après un voyage dans les montagnes des Rhodopes où j’ai rencontré une dame très âgée, mais plutôt dynamique. Elle a attiré mon attention avec ses vêtements - elle portait une chemise blanche avec des symboles « shevitza » autour des manches et du cou. Nous avons eu une belle conversation et elle m’a dit qu’elle portait toujours cette chemise, parce qu’elle l’a dit 'Ça me protège!'
Avec mon projet 'Kitna', j’ai voulu attirer l’attention des gens et montrer que la 'shevitza' bulgare oubliée a sa place dans le monde contemporain. Mon but était de le prendre de nos vêtements et de le mettre dans des bijoux afin que l’homme ou la femme moderne puisse combiner sa tenue contemporaine avec quelque chose de traditionnel qui apportera une énergie positive et une protection tout au long de la journée.
From the first time when I saw a Bulgarian 'shevitza' I was amazed by its beauty and grace, by the time and precision put in the making of the embroidery and by the variety of colors and the harmony in the composition. I was impatient to learn more about the meaning entangled in the mysterious forms and to feel the energy flowing from it.
The Bulgarian 'shevitza' is part of our folklore and is used to ornate the traditional bulgarian clothing called 'nosiya'. It is believed that these symbols bring protection and well being to the one who wears them. Every symbol has its own meaning but generally they all have positive impact. The other interesting thing is that the different regions in Bulgaria have different types of 'shevitza' - they may vary in color and shape.
My passion for the Bulgarian 'shevitza' was awoken after a trip to Rhodope mountains where I met very old, but rather vibrant lady. She caught my attention with her clothing - she was wearing white shirt with 'shevitza' symbols around the sleeves and the neck. We had a nice talk and she told me that she is always wearing this shirt, because as she said 'It protects me!'
With my project 'Kitna' I wanted to caught people's attention and to show that the forgotten Bulgarian 'shevitza' has its place in the contemporary world. My goal was to take it from our clothing and to put it into jewelry so that the modern man or woman can combine his contemporary outfit with something traditional which will bring positive energy and protection trough the day.
