Il mio interesse per il design di mobili è nato quasi immediatamente dopo essermi trasferito a Taos, NM nell'autunno del 1993. Mentre tentavo di arredare la mia casa (una roulotte ai piedi delle montagne del Sangre de Christo) sono rimasto incuriosito dagli scarti di legno che stavo bruciando per il calore. Incuriosito dalle loro forme casuali e naturali ho iniziato a costruire semplici mobili artistici per tutte le aree della mia casa.

Iniziare solo con gli strumenti più elementari, un coltellino svizzero e un martello, mi ha messo su un percorso di creatività e intraprendenza che apprezzo ancora oggi. Nell'anno successivo ho avuto la fortuna di iniziare a costruire infissi per il mio datore di lavoro, Taos Mountain Outfitters. Non molto tempo dopo, ho iniziato a ricevere commissioni per costruire pezzi per case di altri popoli, e anche questo continua.

Man mano che sviluppavo una più acuta consapevolezza del design dei mobili e il mio stile iniziava ad emergere, ho scoperto altri designer e le passioni che condividiamo. Il mio lavoro è influenzato dal lavoro di Nakashima Krenov e Maloof in quanto ogni artigiano senso delle proporzioni e attenzione al flusso naturale dei legni crea un bellissimo oggetto funzionale.

Essendo in gran parte autodidatta sia nel design che nella costruzione, il mio stile è in continua evoluzione. Mentre continua ad andare avanti, riecheggia il lavoro degli Shakers, con un'eleganza moderna, Arts and Crafts e una sensibilità giapponese con forti forme scultoree.

Lavoro principalmente con legni duri americani, come Walnut Maple Cherry e Ash provenienti da foreste raccolte in modo sostenibile. Uso anche piccole quantità (perché anche le scimmie hanno bisogno di un posto dove vivere) di Wenge (When-gee) un legno africano marrone scuro per maniglie e tiri di cassetti. Il legno che seleziono attentamente per ogni progetto è fatto in modo da colori coerenti e motivi di venature drammatiche.

My interest in furniture design was s sparked almost immediately after moving to Taos, NM in the fall of 1993. As I attempted to furnish my home (a trailer in the foot hills of the Sangre de Christo mountains) I became intrigued by the scraps of wood I was burning for heat. Intrigued by their random shapes and natural forms I began to construct simple artistic pieces of furniture for all areas of my house.

Beginning with only the most basic tools, a Swiss army knife and a hammer, set me on a path of creativity and resourcefulness that I value to this day. In the year that followed I was lucky to begin building store fixtures for my employer, Taos Mountain Outfitters. Not long after that, I began to receive commissions to build pieces for other peoples homes, and that continues as well.

As I developed a sharper awareness of furniture design and my own style began to emerge, I discovered other designers and the passions we share. My work is influenced by the work of Nakashima Krenov and Maloof as each craftsmans sense of proportion and attention to the woods natural flow creates a beautiful functional object.

Being largely self taught in both design and construction, my style is always evolving. As it continues to to move forward, it echos the work of the Shakers, with a Modern, Arts and Crafts elegance, and a Japanese sensibility with strong sculptural forms.

I work primarily with American hardwoods, such as Walnut Maple Cherry and Ash from sustainably harvested forests. I also use small quantities (because monkeys need a place to live too) of Wenge (When-gee) a dark brown African wood for handles and drawer pulls. The wood I thoughtfully select for each project is done so for consistent color as well as dramatic grain patterns.
