My name is Rachel and I live in Wollongong, just south of Sydney, with my partner and our two young children. I have many interests and hobbies, but one of them is more than just a hobby... it's an obsession! RetrO VintAGE KiTCHenware!!! It started off as an innocent love for vintage Denby Pottery, and simply excalated from there. I bought my first set of Denby tableware in 1998 - 10 Marrakesh dinner plates and side plates. Funnily enough at that time I had never heard of Denby. What attracted me to the plates was the heavy, solid stoneware feel, which I love, and the design which I thought was pretty modern and interesting. It wasn't until a good few years later that I realised I had in fact grown up with Denby ware at home. My Mum had a few pieces of the Homestead pattern: a sugar bowl, which sat right next to the kettle, and a 2pt jug which we used for milk and kept in the fridge. We used to drink a lot of tea (and I still do) so we used that sugar bowl and jug A LOT! When I began visiting my local op shops in late 2011 it was just for something to do, as I was on maternity leave, but it soon became an addiction after I found my first piece of vintage Denby ware... I was hooked! Since then I've discovered so much great Denby ware, and other cool pieces of retro kitchenware - well made and solid utensils that still work perfectly (i.e. were made to last, unlike a lot of today's kitchenware), funky designs, patterns and colours. I love vintage children's books as well, and have built up quite a collection. I've managed to collect way more than my kitchen and dinning room cupboards can handle so I've decided to part with a lot of it. I've also come to realise that I simply love rummaging around op shops, markets, garage sales (anywhere really!) in search of old and beautiful functional / useful kitchenware, cleaning them up and bringing them back to life (it's become a really hobby), so I'm going to need to find new homes for some of them otherwise my house is going to start looking like a museum! I'm also hoping to get back into sewing and using some of the lovely pieces of vintage material I've picked up along the way, and sell some of my very own 'home-made" pieces, but with two small children keeping me very busy at the moment, we'll see how we go... Thanks for reading if you got this far... and enjoy browsing through my shop! Rachel HobbyMum
