My Name is Martin and i am the person behind Botany Craft.
I am a terrarium maker from Germany and doing this glassworking stuff in my free time. I begun with making terrariums in 2018. First i just make normal terrariums as you can see in several shops or garden center. But after a while i thought that these terrariums are nothing special so i begun to create geometric terrariums. And you know what? I think these geometric terrariums are really pretty. Trust me these terrariums will look absolutely nice in your flat. The geometric design with plants and whole ecosystems in it are an eyecatcher.

✦ My workflow ✦
So now i just want to give you a look behind the scenes.
First i started to cut all glass pieces with my glasscutting tool. There are up to 15 different glasspieces for one of my terrariums. The pieces are all different and even difficult to cut.
After the cutting process is finished i begin to polish the edges of the glass to protect me and you from cuttings. You already know that cutted glass is really sharp.
If this workprocess is done i clean all the glasspieces. This is really important or the next step wont work.
Next i glue the pieces together with special silicone. I use aquatic silicone because there are no plant-harming chemicals in it like in normal silicone. This silicone needs about 24 hours to be completely dry.
If everything is glued together and the silicone is dry i begin to clean the glass. First i remove every overlapping silicone and after this i clean the whole terrarium and make it ready for the packaging. But i think i don't have to explain how i put these terrariums in a package to send it to you.

Ich komme aus Düsseldorf, Deutschland und baue als kleines Handmade Unternehmen meine einzigartigen Terrarien. Aktuell mache ich dies noch als Nebenbeschäftigung. In meinem Hauptjob arbeite ich als Sozialpädagoge.
2018 habe ich mit dem bauen von kleinen Terrarien und Aquarien begonnen.
Irgendwann wurden mir normale Terrarienformen zu langweilig, also begann ich damit geometrische Formen herzustellen.
Nun mache ich das bereits seit 8 Jahren und habe noch immer sehr viel Spaß an daran. Und ich freue mich jedes Mal aufs neue, wenn jemand eins meiner Terrarien kauft.
Ich versuche auch weiterhin regelmäßig neue Formen zu kreieren.

✦ Mein Arbeitsablauf ✦
Jetzt möchte ich dir einfach mal beschreiben, wie ich meine Terrarien herstelle.
Zuerst schneide ich alle Glasstücke mit meinem Glasschneidewerkzeug zurecht. Das sind bei manchen Terrarien bis zu 20 verschiedene Glasstücke.
Als nächstes Schleife ich alle Stücke um dich und mich vor den scharfen Schnittstellen zu schützen. Du weißt ja bereits, dass geschnittenes Glas wirklich scharf ist. Wenn dieser Arbeitsgang erledigt ist, reinige ich alle Glasstücke. Danach klebe ich alle Glasteile mit Abdeckband ab und bereite alles für das Verkleben vor. Zum Verkleben benutze ich spezielles Aquariensilikon, weil es keine pflanzenschädigenden Chemikalien enthält. Dieses Silikon benötigt etwa 24 Stunden, um vollständig getrocknet zu sein. Wenn alles zusammen geklebt und das Silikon trocken ist, beginne ich mit dem Feinschliff. Zuerst entferne ich überstehendes Silikon und danach reinige ich das ganze Terrarium von innen und außen.
Zum Verpacken benutze ich ausschließlich zertifiziertes Papier und Pappe. Sogar das Klebeband und die Etiketten bestehen aus Papier. So kann die gesamte Verpackung sehr einfach recycelt werden. Dieses Thema ist mir sehr wichtig, da ich auch im Umweltschutz aktiv bin und ich Plastik vermeiden möchte.
Ich bin beim Grünen Punkt registriert und zahle eine Abgabe für meine Verpackungen.
Ich bin der Überzeugung, dass Hersteller von Produkten sich bestmöglich um ressourcenschonende Verpackung kümmern sollten.
