Weaving for me is all about color and texture!
Garne zum Weben gibt es in einer Vielzahl von Farben, Größen und Arten. Ich suche nach Farb- und Texturkombinationen, die eine angenehme Überraschung geben. Fasziniert von den Effekten des Mischens von Garnfarben, verwende ich manchmal Farben und Werte, die sehr ähnlich sind, und suche zu anderen Zeiten nach mehr Kontrast. Ich liebe es auch, Garne zu mischen, ein Boucle oder Garn mit einem Slub zu einem Design hinzuzufügen, um Textur hinzuzufügen. Ich hoffe, dass ich die Vielfalt der Farben und Texturen in den Dingen, die ich gewebt habe, mag.
Eine Anmerkung zu meinem Studio. Obwohl ich seit 2004 webe, machte meine Webkarriere im Dezember 2013 einen großen Schritt nach vorne, als wir den Bau eines Anbaus an unser Haus für mein Webstudio abschlossen. Wir haben meinen großen Webstuhl von einem winzigen 120 Quadratmeter großen Raum in einen 400 Quadratmeter großen Raum verlegt. Ich habe jetzt viel Platz, um schöne handgewebte zu entwerfen und zu kreieren. Ich habe Oberlichter, um viel natürliches Licht hereinzulassen, so dass ich oft nicht einmal das Licht einschalten muss. Ein zusätzlicher Bonus ist der Blick auf die Ausläufer der Berge rund um Roanoke vorne und auf meine Gärten auf der Rückseite.
Yarns for weaving come in a wide variety of colors, sizes and kinds. I look for color and texture combinations that give a pleasing surprise. Fascinated by the effects of blending yarn colors, I sometimes use colors and values that are very similar and at other times look for more contrast. I also love blending yarns, adding a boucle or yarn with a slub to a design to add texture. I hope like the varieties of colors and textures in things that I have woven.
A note about my studio. Although I've been weaving since 2004, my weaving career took a big step forward in December 2013 when we completed construction of an addition to our home for my weaving studio. We moved my big loom from a tiny 120 square foot room to a 400 square foot room. I now have plenty of room to design and create beautiful handwovens. I have skylights to let in lots of natural light so I often don't even have to turn on the lights. An added bonus is the views of the foot hills of the mountains surrounding Roanoke in the front and of my gardens in the back.
