Authentic Connection and Joy
I am the only worker behind the Lisa Coriell Art shop, and all of the art and design here is mine. You will see that some of my work has Lisa Coriell Art on it, and some of my cards have Bumblejack. When I first started my ETSY shop, it was a humble little side business that I did while my son took his naps as a baby back in 2009. Now my son is driving (eek! Time flies!) but I am still running this little shop and I am sentimental about the name, so my cards still carry the Bumblejack Cards name, after this Etsy shop, born right around when my son dressed up as a bee for Halloween, and was, well a Bumblejack!
I have tried to set up shop under Lisa Coriell Art, because my business has expanded into galleries, and beyond the cards, so I changed it to Lisa Coriell Art, so my collectors can find me.
I've been drawing and writing as far back as I can remember. My first masterpiece was in lipstick on my mom's best bedsheets, but I've since graduated to paper and canvas. The first things I think I ever made in finished form were greeting cards with my mom being the primary recipient, and I'm pretty sure she still has every last one of them.
For me, greeting cards are all about connection - Deepening and strengthening our relationships with the words that need to be spoken, or our sincerest thoughts, well wishes, support, hope, good news, and sometimes not so good news, but always coming from a place of putting ourselves out there in our unique way. On the surface, it's a piece of card stock with some printing on it, or art in the form of a card. That often is enough. Synchronicities happen when we think of others, and somehow, the right cards always find their way to the people that need them most. So for that reason, no matter how far my art endeavors go, it will always include cards.
This little shop is my heart and soul. I have set up the ability to sell in other places, but this tends to be where all the excitement happens online.
MY ART & ILLUSTRATION
Behind all of the work I do, I am always striving for authenticity, connection with others, joy, and individuality in freedom of self-expression, and a love of nature.
I try to combine books with art as much as I can. Often it shows up in books I help others illustrate, in my own books I create, combining words and illustration in cards, and in abstract art. From 2009 - 2012 I focused on creating illustrated greeting cards, children's illustration, commissioned family illustrations and graphic design work; and in 2018 I began working with nature and wildlife art in small and large scale originals, and merchandise.
I believe art is a great communication tool that has the power to inspire and help others. I like to create works that allow the viewer to tap into that inner sense of belonging, reminding them that we are all a part of something bigger than ourselves, even if our eyes can't see it - be it family, our values, our interests, or sense of place, a cause or a mission, or even a new way of thinking.
Connection is key. Through my work, I help people gain a deeper understanding, appreciation and sense of responsibility for the world we live in, and the community of people and loved ones that surround us. We are the keepers of the other humans here, and the world we live in. I want all of my work to remind us of that.
