Spool & Spade began with a simple question:
Why was it so hard to find a collector bag that felt practical, thoughtfully designed, and a little magical?
As a pin collector myself, I wanted something that could display the things I love without feeling flashy or overwhelming. I wanted a bag that felt comfortable to carry, worked in everyday life, and let my collection shine.
When I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, I decided to create it.
I'm Ellie, the owner of Spool & Spade, a small Canadian shop focused on creating cozy collector bags for people who love pins, art, books, and the little things that make them smile.
Collecting has always been about more than objects for me. Every pin, sticker, print, or piece of artwork represents a story, a memory, a favourite character, a special interest, or an artist whose work resonated with us. I believe the things we choose to keep close matter.
That's why thoughtful design is so important to me. I want Spool & Spade products to feel useful, comfortable, and easy to incorporate into everyday life while still celebrating the collections that bring us joy.
I also care about quality. If I'm spending money on something, I want it to last, and I know many collectors feel the same way. I want the products I create to be things people can use and enjoy for years, not something that needs to be replaced a few months later.
How products are made matters to me, too. When I was looking for a manufacturing partner, I spent time asking questions about materials, working conditions, and business practices because I wanted to feel confident that the products I sell align with the values behind the brand.
I'm also passionate about supporting independent artists and small businesses. Many of the items in my own collection come from fellow creators, and one of my favourite things about this community is discovering new artwork and meeting talented people who care deeply about what they create.
