Ruhestand, ein Anstoß und ein Sprung ins Ungewisse
Retirement, a Nudge and a Leap of Faith
Ich habe schon immer gerne gebastelt, entworfen und Dinge geschaffen, die anderen ein bisschen Freude bereiten. Ich habe sogar mit dem Gedanken gespielt, eines Tages ein eigenes Unternehmen zu gründen, um meine Kreativität und meine Lieblingsstücke zu teilen. Doch das Leben hatte andere Pläne. Als Mathematik- und Informatiklehrerin habe ich 40 Jahre lang meinen Beruf geliebt, aber Arbeit, Familie und der Alltag hielten mich auf Trab. Ich hatte kaum Zeit, meine kreative Seite auszuleben, und so blieb mein kleiner Geschäftstraum in der Versenkung verschwunden. Dann kam Corona und mit ihm der Ruhestand – und plötzlich hatte ich etwas, das ich nie zuvor gehabt hatte: Zeit.
Das Lustige ist, dass ich diese Reise gar nicht sofort geplant hatte. Alles begann sechs Jahre später, als meine Schwester erwähnte, dass sie ihre handgemachten Karten verkaufte, und plötzlich ging mir ein Licht auf: „Das kann ich auch!“ Also wagte ich den Sprung ins kalte Wasser – einen großen Sprung – und hier bin ich nun!
Heute verbringe ich meine Tage damit, kreativ zu sein, zu gestalten, neue Ideen zu entwickeln und Inspirationen in Dinge umzusetzen, von denen ich hoffe, dass sie anderen ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zaubern. Das kann ein lustiges oder gefühlvolles T-Shirt sein, eine fröhliche Tasse, eine Grußkarte für einen besonderen Menschen oder ein ganz neues Produkt, das mich spontan inspiriert, auszuprobieren.
Was als Traum begann, für den ich nie genug Zeit hatte, ist nun fester Bestandteil meines Alltags geworden. Der Ruhestand gab mir die Zeit, meine Schwester den Anstoß, und eine gehörige Portion Glaube gab mir den Mut, anzufangen. Mit Gottes Hilfe werde ich es schaffen!

I’ve always loved crafting, designing, and creating things that bring a little happiness to others. I even toyed with having a business someday where I could share my creativity and the things I love to make, but life had other plans. As a Math and Computer Science teacher for 40 years, I loved what I did, but work, family, and everyday life kept me busy. I didn’t have much time to make use of the creative, other side of my brain, so my little business dream stayed tucked away in the back of my mind. Then Covid hit and with it, retirement—and suddenly, I had something I had never had before: time.
The funny thing is, I didn’t plan to start this journey right away. It all started 6 years later when my sister mentioned that she was selling her handmade cards, and suddenly the light went on “I can do that too!”. So I took a leap of faith—a BIG leap—and here I am!
Today, I get to spend my days creating, designing, exploring new ideas, and turning inspiration into things that I hope will make someone else smile. It might be a funny or heartfelt t-shirt, a cheerful mug, a greeting card for someone special, or some completely new product that I suddenly get inspired to try.
What started as a dream I never had enough time for has become a part of my everyday life. Retirement gave me the time, my sister gave me the nudge, and a whole lot of faith gave me the courage to begin, and with the Lord's help I'll be able to make it happen!
