I am a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who grew up in a home with six sisters and one brother. You can imagine that a family of 10 is hard to provide for and we were taught to be self-sufficient in every aspect of our lives. One of the things I grew to love was sewing. I watched my mother sew all the clothing that she could for our family on a Singer Treadle Machine-no electricity. It ran with two hands, one foot and all the imagination that she had. She told me and my sisters that learning to sew would benefit us throughout our lives. And of course, mama knew best.
After marriage and two children, I became a stay-at-home mom. We were soon blessed with a third daughter. To supplement our income I started sewing for the public and local fabric store displays. I would soon go back into the workplace but with a job inside and outside the home, a husband and a growing family, I did not often get to enjoy my sewing.
I am now retired and although I still keep very busy, sewing is where I find my most peaceful moments. I began making outfits for American Girl dolls for my grandchildren and enjoyed it
so much I set up my site on Etsy and A Sew Sew Shop was born.
It is a great joy to me to know that my dresses will light up the faces of little girls.
