Welcome to All Things Strings, custom orders are always welcome!
I learned to crochet and knit both at a young age, but being left handed and pre-internet left me some challenges.
I asked every lady I knew that was knitting or crocheting to show me how they were doing what they were doing. I saved money and always tried to buy yarn I found at secondhand shops and gathered the free patterns hanging in the store isles, even watched ladies doing their craft and tried really yard to memorize it so I could try to recreate it when I got home to my sticks and needles!
I started having kids young and got inspired to be the mom that makes a closet full of handmade goodies for her babies. As it turns out, I was faster at having babies than making goodies for them :) but it was a great way to spend nap time or relax in the evenings after the house was quiet :)
Over the years I taught myself all kinds of things to knit and crochet for my kids, friends and family, but eventually I ended up with totes of things just waiting for a home! You all know how it goes... Not sure why it took so long, but one day it occurred to me that if I sold those beautiful things made of strings, I'd have more yarn money! And so my next adventure began....
Living here in Alaska is an adventure in itself. Off the grid, in a cabin in the woods? Even better! :) All these long endless days in the land of the midnight sun are a bit of a curse, because I often find myself sitting down after the family falls asleep only to look up at the clock and realize I've once again knitted into the wee hours! And in reverse, these long, dark, freezing cold days go great with a hot cup of coffee, a crackling woodstove and a skein of yarn! So if you ever order something from me and it smells like a campfire.... :)
Thank you for reading my story and please feel free to purchase anything you see and request something you don't!
Stephanie :)
