Frequently asked questions
The nature of handmade
Every piece in my shop is made entirely by me and me alone, wheel-thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired by hand. Handles are pulled and attached individually. Because I’m a maker, not a machine, small variations or subtle maker’s marks may appear. Glazes are not paint and they will differ from piece to piece, including drips which I welcome as part of the process. These are not flaws, they’re the charm and beauty of truly handmade pottery, and what make each piece one-of-a-kind.
Care instructions
Hand-washing is recommended to extend the life of your pottery.
My pieces are also tested for use in the dishwasher, microwave, and oven.
To prevent thermal shock:
Never move a cold or frozen pot directly into a hot oven.
Bring pieces to room temperature first.
Pottery is durable but still breakable, please handle with care!
Returns & Restock fee
I want you to love your pottery. If there is an issue or you are dissatisfied contact me immediately!
Returns requested due to natural handmade variations (such as slight differences in glaze, shape, or finish) may be accepted, but the buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Because each order is packed individually and shipping labels and materials are purchased specifically for your order, a restocking fee of 15% will be deducted from the refund once the item is returned in its original condition.
This policy helps cover the time, packaging, and shipping expenses involved in preparing handmade orders while still allowing flexibility for returns. Thank you for supporting small-batch, handmade pottery!
Can I order in a different glaze color?
Glazes are not like a crayon box. I can do a combination of my glazes on any piece, but I cannot grab a color out of the air that you do not see in my shop. For example, you want a specific color of orangey-red however that is not possible for my shop. Glazes are chemical recipes. I mix glazes in a 5 gallon bucket and use them time and time again. If you see a mug in one color but not the style you want, I can swap glazes for another style mug.
If I get a set will they be the exact same size and color?
Short answer: No- and that’s part of the magic.
Each piece is individually wheel-thrown, trimmed, and glazed by hand. While I start with the same clay weight, natural variations occur: one might be slightly taller, another slightly rounder. Glaze and kiln differences can create subtle shifts in shade.
Your set will be intentionally coordinated, but never factory-identical. Handmade = character.
Will my mug burn my hand if I put it in the microwave for a minute?
No. My stoneware is fired to about 2232°F (1222°C), making it microwave-safe without absorbing significant heat. At normal microwave times (1–2 minutes), your mug should be comfortable to handle.
If I send you a picture of a mug, can you make one exactly like it?
No. I work in my own style with my own glaze palette. Even handmade pieces from other artists can’t be perfectly replicated, nor would I copy another potter’s design.
If you’d like something inspired by my current forms but slightly adjusted, you’re welcome to message me and ask!
Do my glazes contain lead or barium?
No, none of my glazes contain lead or barium.
What if my item arrives damaged?
All orders ship fully insured. I do take extra care to make sure your piece arrives safely, but that is not always foolproof!
In the unfortunate event if your piece arrives damaged:
1. Take clear photos of the damaged item(s) and the box.
2. Contact me through Etsy immediately.
3. Keep everything — occasionally the carrier requests the items for inspection.
4. I’ll file the claim.
5. If you don’t want a replacement (or the item can’t be replicated), I will issue a refund for the item once I have the required photos.
Shipping
Shipping costs rise every year, and I work hard to keep my prices fair while still offering free shipping on most orders. To make that possible, I ship using the most affordable and reliable option available.
Upgrading everything to Priority Mail would require raising item prices by $5–$10 per piece, so I keep standard shipping in place to save you money.
Please note:
Shipping is never truly “free,” but I cover that cost as part of running an online shop.
If you have a deadline or prefer faster shipping, just message me — I’m happy to quote an upgraded shipping option.
