5 out of 5 starsBeautiful piece of art. Not sure if I will use it as a wall hanging or a table runner. It's delicate but very well constructed. Just as pictured, it's gorgeous!

Awanya at the African Art and Music Festival in Los Angeles 2014
AWANYA translates as “tending the Earth” from the Diola language of the Casamance, Senegal in West Africa.
AWANYA :
“Tending the Earth”
Asia Sikkila, a self-taught designer and artist, has always had a passion for traditional arts and natural textiles.
Her travels took her to West Africa over 20 years ago where she had the honor to collaborate with the artists and makers of the textiles for her AWANYA brand.
Bogolan, or "mudcloth,” is the traditional fabric of Mali. Mudcloth is a hand-woven local cotton cloth made with hand-painted designs from natural plant-based and mud dyes.
Each of AWANYA’s statement pieces are unique due to the hand dying process of the fabrics, and create dynamic apparel and home decor with both traditional and modern elements. Many of the designs are simple with minimal cuts to the textiles, intended to showcase the fabric itself.
By wearing an AWANYA garment or bringing a decorative piece into your home, we hope to inspire a sense of connection to the earth that will enrich your life.
