A Zipper Pouch Love Affair

How to tell you about my crush on zipper pouches? Well, I love making things -DIY is my gin and juice and I'm always working on a furniture makeover, a painting, or even a friend's wedding. And as a mom of four my life has a whole lot of moving parts.

So one day I am in a fantastic fabric store in Berkeley, CA , the kind that makes your heart beat faster and your head get a little dizzy with ideas, and of course I want to buy a ton of fabric. I decide to make zipper pouches for each of my daughters so that I have a good reason to buy several different prints. Because I am brilliant that way.

After making the first one I had a serious ah-ha moment. Zipper pouches are amazing! You can store make-up! Pencils! Cords and chargers! Diapers and wipes! Glasses! Knitting needles! First aid supplies! Tampons and pads! Every. Little. Thing.

Anything that helps me stay organized and is pretty is my friend and suddenly zipper pouches were my best friend! I wanted to sew all the pouches in the world!

And thus BarnacleDesigns was born. Each pouch is handmade by me with fabric that I love, and a zipper that complements it. Textile selection is one of the best parts of this gig and I always choose fabrics that appeal in a specific way-whether it's beautifully floral, subtly sophisticated, boldly geometric, or just tickles my funny bone. And the lining has to be just as good.
