À l’université, j’ai suivi un cours de calligraphie pour obtenir un crédit d’art. Et je suis tombée amoureuse de l’encre et du stylo et de la façon dont vous pouvez rendre les lettres belles. C’est vraiment ce que l’art est pour moi - il s’agit de rendre les choses belles. Après l’université et une tentative ratée à l’école supérieure, je suis retourné à l’art comme un moyen d’échapper à ma dépression croissante. J’ai acheté un ensemble de calligraphie de démarrage en ligne et j’ai réappris à utiliser un stylo complètement frustrant pour transformer les mots en magie. Peu de temps après, j’ai pu trouver un emploi dans un atelier de peinture de poterie, ce qui m’a permis d’explorer la peinture sur céramique et le lettrage au pinceau. Si travailler avec un stylo de calligraphie n’était pas assez difficile, j’ai appris à écrire un script fluide avec un pinceau et de la peinture. Et à ce moment-là, je voulais tout apprendre. Je jouais avec l’aquarelle et la gouache, l’encre sumi et toute plume ou pinceau que je pouvais trouver.
Puis un jour, je suis tombé sur une photo d’une belle œuvre d’art tissée. Plein de laine et de coton et itinérant et ficelle. Et je suis tombé amoureux partout. J’ai acheté un métier à tisser en ligne et j’ai trouvé du fil dans les couleurs que j’aimais et j’ai appris à mes mains à tisser les couleurs en quelque chose de beau - quelque chose que je voudrais accrocher dans ma maison. Le tissage a conduit au macramé, ce qui a conduit à la frustration alors que mes doigts apprenaient à nouer et à dénouer les nœuds. c’était ennuyeux et incroyable à la fois.
Mon espoir lorsque vous recherchez quelque chose de spécial dans ma boutique est que vous trouverez des œuvres d’art qui rendent votre cœur heureux. In college, I took a calligraphy class to fulfill an art credit. And I fell in love with the ink and the pen and the way you can make letters beautiful. That's really what art is for me -- it's about making things beautiful. After college and a failed attempt at grad school, I went back to art as a way to escape my growing depression. I bought a starters calligraphy set online and retaught myself how to use a completely frustrating pen to turn words into magic. Not long after this, I was able to get a job at a paint-your-own-pottery studio, which allowed me to explore ceramic painting and brush lettering. If working with a calligraphy pen wasn't difficult enough, I taught myself to write flowing script with a brush and paint. And at that point, I wanted to learn everything. I played with watercolor and gouache, sumi ink, and any nib or brush I could find.
Then one day I stumbled on a photo of a beautiful woven piece of art. Full of wool and cotton and roving and string. And I fell in love all over. I bought a loom online and found yarn in the colors I loved and taught my hands to weave the colors into something beautiful -- something I'd want to hang in my home. Weaving led to macrame, which led to frustration as my fingers learned to tie and untie knots. it was annoying and amazing all at once.
