Chilean since birth, felter since 30!
I grew up in Chile and my whole childhood I loved arts and working with a variety of media. I came to the U.S. at the age of 20 to finish my bachelor's degree in Education. When my husband and I got pregnant with our first child, I decided to step away from the classroom and be a stay-at-home mom, but I needed some other channel for my creative energies. I remember starting out that first winter, crocheting snowflakes and selling them at my first ever craft sale -- it felt amazing! I was really drawn to wool so I bought a book about the traditional way of felting, and there was no looking back.
Soon I started branching into felted scarves, flower broaches, hats, and other accessories. Then came the experimentation with new materials and techniques -- alpaca fiber, silk for nuno felting, and need felting. I just loved it. At that time I was selling mostly at a couple of small, eclectic shops, first in Columbus while my husband finished his degree and then in Wooster, OH, where we moved shortly after. Looking around for other market outlets, I found Etsy during its early years and started my shop.
I have continued to experiment, always looking to add more creativity to the felting process. I bought a small carding drum to produce batts and rolags, and I hand-dye my own roving and silk. This is an area where I see myself furthering my efforts in the near future, as I love to create my own unique and vibrant colors.
Thanks for visiting my shop!
