Surfaces are suitable for a wall sticker
Painted walls: Basically, water-based emulsion paints are very suitable for a wall decals.
Structure of the surface: The smoother a surface for a wall sticker, the better. Woodchip wallpaper or rough plaster are also suitable as a substrate with a moderate grain size, if they are painted with a simple emulsion paint.
Other surfaces such as furniture, doors, windows, mirrors or Plexiglas can also be covered with a wall stickers.
Badly suitable substrates for a wall sticker
Caution is advised with special paints with latex properties, with silicate and silicone paint, acrylic paint and also with washable and glossy wallpapers.
To put it simply: All paints that are declared as dirt-repellent, water-repellent or particularly scrubbable or that have a very glossy surface should be tested beforehand with a test wall tattoo.
Explanation: Often special wall paints in particular are mixed in such a way that dirt and water roll off them, but unfortunately wall decals cannot hold onto them either.
Tip: If you have fallen in love with a motif, but the wall tattoo does not want to stick to your wall, you can also place it on a plexiglass plate, on a canvas painted with emulsion paint and attach it to the wall.
How well are wall decals for latex paint or silicone paint?
Wall decals do not or rather badly adhere to silicone paint, silicone varnish and "latex paint". The reason for this is that the ingredients of these colors do not harmonize with the adhesive of the wall sticker. Contrary to what many think, that says nothing about the quality of the wall sticker or the wall paint. Neither your wall color is bad in this case, nor are our wall decals inferior. The chemistry is simply not right here in the truest sense of the word.
How and whether the wall sticker sticks to your "latex paint", we cannot say in general. Each wall color is mixed differently by the manufacturer and has a different composition. If you are unsure about your order, simply request our sample wall sticker.
Do wall decals stick to woodchip wallpaper?
When choosing the material, we paid attention and convinced ourselves that the film of our wall decals would also stick to woodchip wallpaper. The film adapts very well to the substrate due to its low thickness.
Tip: To ensure that the wall decal hugs uneven surfaces, simply warm it up slightly with a hair dryer and press it down again.
So that the wall decal sticks well, the woodchip wallpaper should not be painted with silicone paint or "latex paint", should not have a glossy effect and should not have any dirt or water-repellent properties.
How long do I have to wait to install after a renovation?
Anyone who has freshly painted, wallpapered or plastered needs a little patience. While you probably can't wait, wait at least two weeks after a renovation to apply your new wall sticker. This applies to new wallpaper, paintwork and fresh plaster. The wall has to be thoroughly dry so that the wall decal can develop its full adhesive power.
Can wall decals be applied in the bathroom?
A wall sticker can also be applied in the bathroom. Since our wall decals are made of a waterproof film, they are insensitive to high humidity, such as in the bathroom. This is what distinguishes them, for example, from paper-based stickers.
Wall decals stick to tiles just as well as they do to wallpaper. They can also provide variety in the bathroom, on windows or outside (not inside) on shower doors.
You should not clean the wall sticker too intensively or let it get wet. Do not use harsh cleaning agents and only wipe with a damp cloth.
Note: Make sure that wall paint and wallpaper as a substrate for a wall decal should not have any water-repellent properties. Should not have been cleaned with a lotus effect cleaner before gluing.
Do I need help installing?
If you've never put a wall sticker on, it can't hurt to help.
We recommend a second person as a helping hand even with large motifs. In addition, it is well known that it is just more fun for two!
Overall, the following applies: Follow the instructions, take your time and think carefully beforehand where you want to position the wall sticker. Exact assembly instructions are enclosed with the wall sticker and can also be found in our guide.
Can I cover a stain with a wall sticker?
Unfortunately, wall decals are not really a solution for "sticking over stains". Depending on the type of stain, it can affect the adhesive properties of the wall sticker. So: Better to paint over or touch up first and then stick on the wall decal.
