SIZES - I wear a clothing size ---, how do I know what size pattern to buy? Sizes & proportions have changed over the decades & differ from sizes on Modern Patterns & the unregulated sizing of commercial clothing.

MEASURE your bust/chest, waist & hips with a sewers measuring tape or string & ruler. READ the measurement charts in our descriptions to COMPARE. We try to match closely to modern sewing pattern sizes to help you - Ex. 14 / 12 Bust 34

1960's or earlier? For Dress, Jacket & Blouse patterns; choose the correct BUST SIZE, & make any necessary alterations in the waist and hips. An experienced sewer may be able to make adjustments in the bust. For Skirts & Pants, it is best to choose the correct HIP SIZE, & adjust the waist

Junior, Teen & Petite sizes (ex. 7, 13) have different proportions than Miss sizes (ex. 12). The Back length; neck to waist measurement is Shorter than Miss sizes

There are free online tutorials for resizing patterns too!

CONDITION OF VINTAGE PATTERNS? All are Pre-owned, Most are Vintage, some are Modern Reissues of Vintage Designs (described as Retro)

We check ALL our patterns & do our best to accurately describe their condition. Click on "Description" "Item Details" or "Learn More" to READ THE CONDITION SECTION OF THE DESCRIPTION. Patterns are cut unless stated Uncut. Some older patterns are factory pre-cut. It will be noted if there are any missing or damaged components. COMPLETE means it includes INSTRUCTIONS in English, unless otherwise noted.

Envelopes may be rumpled, creased, worn on edges, ink stamped, have tears & splits, areas where stickers were removed, or writing. Vintage envelopes & patterns may have stains or yellowing/browning from age. Use the Zoom option for a closer look.

GOOD rating=average envelope condition of Vintage patterns that have been stored & bumped around

SEWING LEVELS & RATINGS - What does that refer to?

Some patterns give a level of difficulty/sewing ability recommended to use the pattern...from Easy to Average to Advanced.
Patterns printed before 1965 rarely have a rating, so we have used our sewing experience to rate these patterns.

The buyer should use their own judgement before purchase to decide if their skills match the rating. Be sure to look at the photo of the backs of the envelopes for more information on the construction of the garment.

TIP: If you LOVE Vintage patterns & want them to last;, trace the pattern pieces, and use those tracings when you make your garment. Store the original pieces back in the pattern envelope.

SALES TAX? Is VAT tax included in the price & shipping fees? What about Import Duty?

SALES TAX - Etsy charges & collects applicable sales taxes at checkout for Canada, USA, Australia & New Zealand.

Shipments to the USA - 94% of our patterns are labelled as made/ printed in the U.S.A, so wouldn't be charged any duty. 6% are from the UK - these are usually STYLE brand, as stated on the listings.

VAT -European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland & Norway require Etsy to collect applicable VAT. Etsy adds it to our prices; displays the price INCLUDING VAT in your currency. Put items in your cart, then view cart to see the separate taxes, item prices, and delivery.

DUTY & Customs Fees - The buyer is responsible for any fees, taxes and duties that may be charged by their government for importing goods.

LANGUAGE - What Language are the Pattern Instructions?

99% of the instructions on our vintage patterns are in English only. Sometimes there are also instructions in an additional language, usually on the newer reissued Retro patterns

Some envelopes have writing in French or Spanish or Dutch or German, BUT that is NOT an indicator that the instructions found inside are multi-lingual.

In the description part of the listing, under CONDITION, we will note if the instructions are available or included in an additional language besides the standard English.

You can type "French Instructions", "Spanish Instructions", "German", etc.. into our Shop Search function, to find some multilingual patterns

Please contact us before purchase if you are
unsure if the pattern instructions are in your language
