Nessuna fibra lasciata indietro!!
No Fiber Left Behind!!
Ho iniziato a lavorare con le fibre negli anni '70 e ho realizzato molti gilet Grandma Square che erano piuttosto popolari all'epoca. Mi fa ancora ridere pensare a quante combinazioni di colori avevo.
Chi avrebbe mai pensato che la loro popolarità sarebbe tornata a crescere?
Una volta ritiratomi dall'insegnamento, la maglia è entrata nella mia vita. Man mano che le mie capacità crescevano, cresceva anche il mio interesse per tutto ciò che era fatto di fibre.
Ricordo soprattutto che, mentre guardavo i libri One Skein Wonders, i modelli che mi attraevano di più erano quelli che utilizzavano filati filati a mano. Quindi, è nata la necessità di imparare a filare.
Poi ho iniziato a cimentarmi nella tintura della lana con il Kool-Aid e ho iniziato un'altra nuova esperienza di apprendimento. Andavo in un negozio di lana locale e compravo 4 once di lana pettinata Falkland che poi tingevo, filavo e lavoravo a maglia un cappellino e dei guanti per un bambino. Una volta ho comprato una libbra di fibra e ho pensato OMG cosa farò con così tanta lana? Non dovrebbe sorprendere che ora molte parti della mia casa siano state invase da attrezzature per lana e fibra.
Dopo aver sentito parlare della Phat Fiber Box contenente campioni di filato e fibra tinti a mano, ho pensato che mi sarebbe piaciuto far parte di questa community. Mi è stato detto che avevo bisogno di un negozio Etsy per partecipare, così è nato "Friends in Fiber". Assegnandomi un tema ogni mese, la mia immaginazione è stata sfidata a creare varianti di colore che rappresentassero i temi. Molte di queste varianti di colore sono ancora popolari e disponibili nel negozio.
Il mio amore per tutto ciò che è in fibra continua a crescere e mi regala gioia e soddisfazione nel creare nuove combinazioni di colori, filare la fibra e lavorarla a maglia, a tessitura o infeltrirla.
I started working with fiber in the 1970's and made many Granny Square vests which were quite popular at the time. Still laugh about how many color combinations I had.
Who would have thought that they would rise again in popularity?
Once I retired from teaching, knitting entered my life. As my skills grew so did my interest in all things fiber.
I remember most that while looking at the One Skein Wonders books, the patterns I was most drawn to used handspun yarn. So, then came the need to learn to spin.
Next, I started dabbling with dyeing wool top with Kool-Aid and I was off on another new learning experience. I would go to a local wool shop and buy 4 Oz. of Falkland combed top which I then dyed, spun into yarn and knit a little hat and mittens for a child. Once I bought a pound of fiber and thought OMG what am I going to do with so much wool? It shouldn't be shocking that now many parts of my home have been overtaken with wool and fiber equipment.
After hearing about the Phat Fiber Box containing samples of hand dyed yarn and fiber, I thought I would love to be part of this community. I was told that I needed an Etsy shop to participate so "Friends in Fiber" was born. By being assigned a theme every month my imagination was challenged to create colorways to represent the themes. Many of these colorways are still popular and available in the shop.
My love for all things fiber continues to grow and bring me joy and satisfaction in creating new colorways, spinning fiber and knitting, weaving or felting with it.
