Husband, Wife, 4 kids, a couple of dogs, a cat, 50 chickens and too many bees to count ...
Matt & Sara met in 2008 through mutual friends.
In 2011 Matt & Sara got married!
Matt & Sara welcomed their first child into their lives in 2013.
Shortly after their first son was born they were Blessed beyond words with a second son, in 2014.
Sara was teaching Preschool, Matt was a Metal Fabricator and they both started picking up odd jobs to help support their little family.
More jobs meant more time away from the kids!
Finally, Matt had the amazing idea to start a home business and Homestead Engraving was born. Crafting has always run deep in Matt's family. His Mom had run her own Craft Business for most of his life and over the last few years and other families had joined the Family Legacy creating their own crafting businesses as well. "I will never do crafts," is what Matt would always say.
Our business name, Homestead Engraving reflects how we try to live. We enjoy living off the land as much as possible (our own little Homestead). Our boys have A LOT of chickens that they take care of, selling eggs to neighbors, friends and relatives. We love to garden and can our own food and chop wood to heat our home and raise honey bees. Matt is an avid outdoor sportsman. He enjoys Hunting and Fishing and it's a good thing because our growing family eats a lot!
Our first project for Homestead Engraving was creating etched, glass water bottles. We would work on them at night , when the kids slept, or during nap time on the weekends. We used dangerous chemicals but we were finally able to cut down a little on the odd jobs.
A few months into our new business we were able to purchase a laser and ditch the nasty chemicals. With the laser we now create one-of-a kind etched and engraved creations! Due to the fact that we run our business out of our basement as a two person, husband and wife team we do not have the overhead costs most larger businesses have. This helps us keep our prices competitive. I always heard it was a bad idea to work with your spouse but our business has only brought us closer and helped us realize our individual strengths! While Matt does most designing and creating Sara manages our website, communication with customers and packaging. Along with our listings we offer personalized products you create. Feel free to message us with your great ideas and we will be happy to send you a quote.
Our business has helped us to be home more. In 2017 Sara transitioned to a Working/Stay-at-Home Mom and we welcomed a third little one into our lives! In 2018 Matt transitioned to a Working/ Stay-at-Home Dad as well. In 2019 we welcomed a fourth little onto this crazy path. Our journey has had some wild twists and turns, many we never imagined but we wouldn't have it any other way! God is good! : )
