Comecei a brincar com saibro aos 9 anos. Eu o encontrei escondido na costa perto da cabana à beira do lago de nossa família no norte de Minnesota. Desenterrei e fiz vasos de pressão, pintando-os com tintas a óleo velhas que encontrei em nosso galpão. Desde então, fiz algumas aulas aqui e ali, comprei minha roda de oleiro em 2014 e tenho feito cerâmica em tempo integral desde então.

A cerâmica é um esforço de tempo e trabalho intensivo. Desde o momento em que um objeto é feito, seja na roda ou moldado à mão, muitas horas de tempo e esforço são investidos nele, bem como o gasto de todos os materiais necessários - argila, esmalte, suprimentos, eletricidade, etc. Aparar, decorar (ou seja, esculpir, pintar, decorar à mão) pode levar horas. A vidraça pode ser muito demorada, pois nem todos os ceramistas mergulham seus esmaltes. Eu raramente mergulho minhas peças, mas principalmente uso esmaltes brush-on em certas combinações, adicionando nuances sutis que tornam meu trabalho único. Na maioria das vezes, vidraças para mim envolvem muitas horas de trabalho, reflexão, planejamento e esforço. Quando você compra uma peça de minha cerâmica artesanal, está pagando pelo tempo e muitas horas de esforço necessários para trazê-la à minha loja Etsy. Sou o criador, fotógrafo, comerciante e único proprietário do JMurray Studio e tenho muito orgulho em fazer um produto que é verdadeiramente e honestamente feito à mão.

I started playing with clay when I was 9 years old. I found it tucked into the shoreline near our family's lakeside cabin in northern Minnesota. I dug it out and made pinch pots, painting them with old oil paints that I found in our shed. Since then I've taken a few classes here and there, buying my potters wheel in 2014, and have been making pottery full time ever since.

Pottery is a time and labor-intensive endeavor. From the time an object is made, either on the wheel or hand-formed, many hours of time and effort go into it, as well as the expense of all of the materials that are needed - clay, glaze, supplies, electricity, etc. Trimming, decorating (i.e. carving, painting, hand-decoration) can take hours. Glazing can be very time-intensive, as not all potters dip their glazes. I rarely dip my pieces, but mostly use brush-on glazes in certain combinations, adding subtle nuances that make my work unique. Most of the time, glazing for me entails many hours of work, thought, planning and effort. When you buy a piece of my handmade pottery, you are paying for the time and many hours of effort that it took to bring it to my Etsy shop. I am the maker, photographer, marketer and sole proprietor of JMurray Studio and I take a lot of pride in making a product that is truly and honestly handmade.
