Hi,
My name is Martin, I'm a self taught sculptor from the UK. I first started sculpting when I was a wee lad at the age of 4, my parents bought me my first packet of plasticine and I never looked back. There was barely a day went by when I wouldn’t be making things out of my modelling clay, I loved it and it came very naturally to me.

Nobody ever pushed me in to sculpting and nobody pushed me to keep going with it, I've just always felt a natural urge inside me to sculpt and to continually improve and raise my standards. As silly as it might sound, even though I'm only 36 I've actually been sculpting for around 27 years +, this is taking in to account a few years when I didn't do anything with my sculpting, but I could never stop coming back to it.

I got my first professional sculpting job when I was only 17 after doing work experience at Aardman Animations (the creators of Wallace and Gromit etc) with no sculpting qualifications or degrees, and in a world were so much importance is placed on needing qualifications I'm very proud to be self taught and to have achieved success based on my natural talent alone.

I worked at Aardman Animations on and off for a few years, I worked on Creature Comforts series 2 UK, and Creature Comforts USA. After that I tried a few business ventures of my own, and again I've come back to my sculpting.

I create all the hippo sculptures I sell in my Etsy shop, and I also take care of every single aspect of my business. From packing up and dispatching orders, to making moulds and then castings of my hippo sculptures, I even do all of my own branding.

That's quite a feat for just one person, but I never feel more comfortable and happy within myself unless I'm being creative and it's a fantastic feeling to be able to create sculptures that people from all over the world will treasure for a long time to come.
