Mis obras de arte descargables e imprimibles son copias digitales de obras de arte reales creadas en mi estudio. Utilizo materiales tradicionales como papel de acuarela y papel oriental, acuarela, tinta y grafito. Las características y cualidades innatas de estos materiales aparecerán en la impresión, como los pigmentos y las texturas del papel, las fibras y arrugas del papel y las diferencias tonales creadas a través de lavados tonales. Estos son intencionales y el resultado de trabajar con materiales y técnicas tradicionales de dibujo y pintura.
Vivo un estilo de vida minimalista y adopto la estética zen japonesa, como Shibui y Wabi-Sabi. Mi arte refleja esas experiencias; celebra la belleza discreta, tranquila y calmada en la simplicidad y las imperfecciones. Busco equilibrar la simplicidad elegante con la complejidad y un equilibrio entre conceptos estéticos contrastantes como lo espontáneo y lo sobrio, lo elegante y lo áspero o los colores tenues con un toque de intensidad. Crear es una alegría pura y una parte integral de mis rituales meditativos diarios, mi estilo de vida lento y una celebración de mi viaje minimalista.
Mi arte tiene una fuerte conexión con mi interés por las piedras preciosas, la tierra y el paisaje marino de Gales, la astronomía y mi trabajo en cerámica. En parte, el arte tiene que ver con lo que me inspira visualmente, no tanto con los objetos en sí, sino con su estética asociada. Estos sugieren elementos de brillo, destellos, pátina, lustre, mate, opacidad, patrón, tono, silueta... Luego está la reducción de este vocabulario visual; la economía de la forma, el color, la textura de la superficie y los detalles.
HOGAR
Vivo en la hermosa región costera y rural de la península de Gower, en el sur de Gales, Reino Unido, con mi esposo y mis hijos. Soy una caminante entusiasta y mi entorno me brinda una inspiración infinita y recursos valiosos, de donde proviene gran parte de mi trabajo. Dentro de la costa de Gower hay nada menos que veinticinco playas, que van desde impresionantes vistas de muchas playas de arena, hermosas bahías con interesantes calas, castillos y pueblos costeros para explorar. Sin olvidar la vida silvestre y las plantas...
MI ARTE: PENSAMIENTOS, PROCESOS E INSPIRACIÓN
Me interesa la creación, lo hecho a mano y la naturaleza táctil de los materiales. Creo arte a un ritmo lento en mi hermoso estudio casero en Gales. Todas mis obras de arte son originales, únicas, hechas a mano y creadas individualmente por mí: desde los bocetos iniciales, la mezcla de pigmentos de acuarela, hasta la aplicación de aguadas sobre papel de la mejor calidad. Controlo el flujo y el secado del agua pigmentada, utilizando mi proceso único que he perfeccionado a lo largo de muchos años de trabajo en mi estudio y la universidad.
Valoro el aspecto artesanal de mi arte, ya que me permite crear obras de arte únicas y celebrar las imperfecciones que las acompañan. Aprecio la ausencia de características innecesarias, infundo tranquilidad y mi objetivo es revelar el carácter innato y la esencia de los materiales utilizados. Trabajo con los mejores papeles italianos, franceses y orientales hechos a mano, con acuarelas de artista, platino, grafito y pigmentos minerales genuinos de origen natural.
La acuarela es simplemente el alma de mi trabajo y mi pasión, centrándose en los materiales y el proceso que sigue la pintura y el viaje que emprendemos. Una combinación de técnicas tradicionales de acuarela junto con un proceso que descubrí yo mismo: observar el comportamiento y el movimiento de los pigmentos transportados junto con el flujo de agua sobre y dentro del papel en varias etapas del ciclo del agua. Escucho este proceso, observo cómo reaccionan los pigmentos individuales y las mezclas, manteniendo un diálogo constante con la intrincada interacción de los pigmentos que viajan con el agua sobre el papel y respondo en consecuencia. Mi proceso maneja y guía la tensión superficial; el flujo y el secado del agua pigmentada en la superficie del papel y en sus fibras. Al mismo tiempo, exploto su imprevisibilidad con curiosidad y voluntad de experimentar e incorporar efectos accidentales. Celebrando la riqueza de los efectos mágicos y fortuitos creados.
Al principio, hay una dirección clara de la paleta de colores y los elementos de composición, pero escucho las señales a medida que se desarrolla la obra y voy donde me dice la pintura. En el "principio", la pintura de acuarela húmeda se ve muy diferente a la obra de arte seca final. A medida que el agua pigmentada se desplaza y luego se evapora, la tarea del agua ha terminado, capturando el movimiento de los pigmentos que acompañaban el flujo del agua. Mi intención se ha cumplido: han surgido nuevas formas, texturas y tonos en la obra. El resultado son obras de arte únicas, áreas que se han transformado, creando formas, texturas y nubes suaves y difusas de color y tono únicas. Si bien nunca sé completamente cómo afectará mi proceso a la obra terminada, la revelación es un momento especial para mí, ¡similar a abrir la puerta del horno después de una cocción!
Mis acuarelas desafían los límites de las "reglas" consagradas por el tiempo y piden al espectador que vea el medio bajo una luz nueva y contemporánea. Reevalúan las tradiciones y las convenciones, pero al mismo tiempo permiten que la acuarela se exprese, que revele su carácter y esencia innatos. Me esfuerzo por mantener un delicado equilibrio entre el control y la inesperada belleza imperfecta.
COLOR, PIEDRAS PRECIOSAS Y PIGMENTOS
Mi colección de piedras preciosas sigue creciendo y estas bellezas son una fuente de inspiración infinita y rica para mis acuarelas. Proporcionan una gran riqueza de color, forma y patrón, que son elementos clave de mi arte. Colecciono pigmentos minerales genuinos en forma de acuarelas, mica y polvos sueltos. Uno de mis favoritos es Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolours; PrimaTek. La gama PrimaTek son colores únicos hechos a mano con auténticos pigmentos minerales naturales. Favoritos: hematita y ojo de tigre hasta los exquisitos tonos joya de rodonita, lapislázuli, turmalina negra genuina, apatita azul, apatita verde, granate, amatista, piedra de sangre y cianita.

CREACIÓN DE MARCAS
Mi arte es una unión de la espontaneidad de la acuarela y el control de la creación de marcas. Textura y patrón creados con líneas y puntos simples. A menudo prefiero papeles de superficie lisa, ya que me dan la libertad de crear mis propias texturas de superficie, a través de la manipulación del papel; doblando, incidiendo, rayando, estampando y perforando. En ocasiones, las marcas se acentúan cuando los pigmentos se depositan en los huecos o en la superficie rota del papel. Las marcas también se hacen utilizando plantillas. Marcas de pincel prensadas utilizando el lado o la punta del pincel y con y sin máscaras. También modifico los pinceles cortando las cerdas, creando interesantes "marcas de pincel prensadas".
EL PUNTO HUMILDE
El punto es una característica recurrente en mi trabajo durante los últimos 20 años. Crear puntos es similar a mi obra de arte de tejido de cuentas en telar en lo que respecta a su proceso lento y repetitivo. Algunas obras de arte se componen de cientos de puntos. Debido al largo proceso de creación y la repetitividad, encuentro que esta acción complementa mi estilo de vida minimalista en el sentido de que es relajante y meditativa.
Por lo general, los puntos recorren el perímetro de una forma o las divisiones invisibles dentro de la forma. La inspiración está tomada del flujo de agua a lo largo y alrededor de los objetos y de los jardines de rocas japoneses. Los diseños incluyen líneas de puntos, en filas y dispuestos en cuadrículas: cuadradas, isométricas y hexagonales. Los puntos se forman principalmente mediante técnicas de perforación y relieve y, ocasionalmente, con tinta mediante una pluma de inmersión o un pincel fino.
LINEA SIMPLE
Trabajar líneas finas es otro de mis favoritos, realizado con tinta, doblando y desdoblando papel, haciendo incisiones y rayando papel, cosiendo... Creando rayas finas, tramas cortas y en espiga en filas simples.

My downloadable printable art are digital copies of actual artworks created in my studio. I use traditional materials such as watercolour paper and oriental paper, watercolour, ink and graphite. The innate characteristics and qualities of these materials will appear on the print, such as pigment and paper textures, paper fibres/creases and tonal differences created through tonal washes. These are intentional and a result of working with traditional drawing and painting materials and techniques.
I live a minimalist lifestyle and embrace Japanese Zen aesthetics such as Shibui and Wabi-Sabi. My art reflects those experiences; celebrating the understated, quiet, calm beauty in simplicity and imperfections. I seek to balance, elegant simplicity with complexity and a balance between contrasting aesthetic concepts such as spontaneous and restrained, elegant and rough or subdued colours with a hint of the vivid. Creating is a pure joy and an integral part of my daily meditative rituals, slow living lifestyle and a celebration of my minimalist journey.
My art has a strong connection with my interest in precious stones, the Welsh land and seascape, astronomy and my ceramic work. In part the art is about what inspires me visually, not so much about the objects themselves but their associated aesthetics. These suggest elements of shine, sparkle, patina, gloss, matte, opacity, pattern, hue, silhouette…. Then the paring down of this visual vocabulary; the economy of shape, colour, surface texture and detailing.
HOME
I live in the beautiful coastal and rural region of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, UK, with my husband and children. I’m an avid walker and my surroundings provide me with endless inspiration and rich resources, where for a large part of my work comes from. Within Gower’s coastline lies no less than twenty-five beaches, ranging from stunning vistas of many sandy beaches, beautiful bays with interesting coves, castles and coastal villages to explore. Not forgetting the wildlife and plants….
MY ART: THOUGHTS, PROCESSES & INSPIRATION
I’m interested in the making, the handmade and the tactile nature of the materials. Creating art at a slow pace in my beautiful Welsh home studio. All my artworks are original, unique, handmade and created individually by me: from initial sketches, mixing of watercolour pigments, to the laying down of washes onto the finest quality paper. I manage the flow and drying of the pigmented water, using my unique process that I have perfected throughout many years of working at my studio and university.
The handmade aspect of my art is something I value, allowing me to create unique works of art, and celebrate the imperfections that follow. They appreciate the absence of unnecessary features, instils a quietness, and aim to reveal the innate character and essence of the materials used. Working on the finest handmade Italian, French and oriental papers, in artist watercolours, platinum, graphite and naturally occurring genuine mineral pigments.
Watercolour is simply the soul of my work and my passion, focusing on the materials and the process that the painting takes and the journey that we took. A combination of traditional watercolour techniques together with a process that I discovered myself; observing the behaviour and motion of pigments transported along with the flow of water on and in the paper at various stages of the water-cycle. I listen to this process, observe how single pigments and mixtures react, maintaining a constant dialogue with the intricate interaction of pigments travelling with the water on the paper and respond accordingly. My process handles and guides the surface tension; the flux and drying of the pigmented water on the surface of the paper and in its fibres. Whilst at the same time exploiting its unpredictability with a curiosity and willingness to experiment and incorporate accidental effects. Celebrating the wealth of magical and serendipitous effects created.
There is a clear direction of colour palette and compositional elements at the start, but I listen to the cues as the art unfolds and go where the painting tells me. In the ‘beginning’ the wet watercolour painting looks very different to the final dried artwork. As the pigmented water shifts and then evaporates the water’s task is over, capturing the motion of the pigments that accompanied the flow of the water. My intention is fulfilled: new shapes, textures and tones have emerged in the work. Resulting one-of-a-kind artworks, areas that have morphed, creating unique shapes, textures and soft, diffused clouds of colour and tone. While I never completely know how my process will affect the finished work, the reveal is a special moment for me, akin to opening the kiln door after a firing!
My watercolours push the boundaries of time honoured ‘rules’, and ask the viewer to see the medium in a new and contemporary light. They re-evaluate traditions and conventions, but at the same time allowing the watercolour to express itself, to reveal its innate character and essence. I strive to maintain a fine balance of control and the unexpected imperfect beauty.
COLOUR, GEMSTONES & PIGMENTS
My collection of precious gemstones continues to grow and these beauties are a source of infinite and rich inspiration for my watercolours. Providing a wealth of colour, shape and pattern, which are key elements of my art. I collect genuine mineral pigments in the form of watercolours, mica and loose powders. A favourite is Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolours; PrimaTek. The PrimaTek range are unique colours handmade with authentic naturally occurring mineral pigments. Favourites: Hematite and Tiger’s Eye to the exquisite jewel shades of Rhodonite, Lapis Lazuli, Genuine Black Tourmaline, Blue Apatite, Green Apatite, Garnet, Amethyst, Bloodstone and Kyanite.

MARK MAKING
My art is a coming together of the spontaneity of watercolour and the control of mark making. Texture and pattern created with simple line and dots. Often preferring smooth surface papers, as these free me to create my own surface textures, through paper manipulation; folding, incising, scoring, embossing and piercing. On occasions, marks are accentuated when pigments settle into the recesses or broken paper surface. Marks are also made using stencils. Pressed brush marks using either the side or tip of the brush and with and without masks. I also modify brushes by cutting into the bristles, creating interesting ‘pressed brush marks’.
THE HUMBLE DOT
The dot is a recurring feature in my work over the past 20 years. Creating dots is akin to my bead weaving off-loom artwork with regards to its slow and repetitive process. Some artworks are comprised of hundreds of dots. Due to the lengthy making process and repetitiveness, I find this action complements my minimalist lifestyle in that it is both relaxing and meditative.
Typically, dots walk along the perimeter of a form or along the unseen divides within the form. Inspiration taken from the flow of water along and around objects and Japanese Rock gardens. Layouts include lines of dots, in rows and laid in grids: square, isometric and hexagonal. Dots are formed primarily by piercing and embossing techniques and occasionally with ink by means of a dip pen or a fine brush.
SIMPLE LINE
Working fine lines is another favourite of mine, produced with ink, folding and unfolding paper, incising and scoring paper, stitch…. Creating pinstripes, short and herringbone hatching in simple rows.
