PunkyBoy Is the name of my business. I make handmade jewelry using real Black Widow Spiders, other spider species, scorpions, a variety of different beetles and insects, reptiles and rodents, but mostly I use Black Widow Spiders.
The reason why PunkyBoy jewelry is so completely unique is because I’ve developed my own process to preserve real black widow spiders so they don’t need to be encased in resin, which is the typical preservation process. This allows me to manipulate their bodies into positions that make them look natural and alive.
I live on a farm in Tucson, and I find, catch or raise all the Sanoran critters used in my jewelry by myself. In fact, for a few years now I’ve been raising live black widows. I also frequently find dead rodents, lizards and snakes on the farm, and I do all the processing by myself. I don’t ever kill reptiles or rodents for the purpose of using them for my jewelry. In fact, I ensure that all PunkyBoy Old Pueblo critters are ethically sourced and sustainable, and I even return the egg sacs from my live black widow spiders back to my farm to continue populating naturally. All PunkyBoy jewelry pieces highlight native Tucson, AZ Old Pueblo critters, and of course, real Black Widow Spiders!
PunkyBoy is truly unique one of a kind statement piece jewelry, and I can say with confidence that nobody else does what I do, or even knows how I do it.
I have been selling my jewelry on my Etsy store PunkyBoy for several years. Additionally, PunkyBoy jewelry is sold at the amazing oddities and natural science store, Paxton Gate, in San Francisco, and at the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History.
