About the Artist – Sincerely Joy
Hi! I’m Cristine Joy Cambrea, the artist behind the Sincerely Joy brand. My artwork begins with vibrant layers of color, flowing shapes, and expressive abstract backgrounds. As the paint develops, I begin to see creatures, faces, and whimsical characters emerging from the shapes. This intuitive process is inspired by a fascinating phenomenon called pareidolia, which is the natural ability of the mind to recognize images and patterns within abstract forms.
What begins as free-flowing color slowly transforms as I discover the hidden personalities inside the painting. I then bring those creatures to life with details, expression, and movement. Because of this process, many viewers find that they notice new images or hidden details each time they look at the artwork.
Through my Sincerely Joy collection, these original paintings are transformed into colorful home décor and wearable art, including tapestries, blankets, journals, clothing, and accessories. My goal is to bring a sense of wonder, imagination, and positivity into everyday spaces.
I’ve been sharing my artwork with collectors and customers since 2008, and it brings me so much joy knowing that these playful characters find homes around the world. Each design is created from my original artwork and reflects my love for creativity, curiosity, and joyful self-expression.
Thank you for supporting independent artists and handmade creativity.
☀︎ Description of my art and process ---->>
If there were a special camera or glasses to see people and things—not just their physical attributes, but also their experiences, their troubles, their sicknesses, their connectedness or lack of to everything around them—I think they would look very similar to my paintings. I do not draw what people look like; I draw maps of their experiences, feelings, energy, and relationships among their physical, emotional and energetic environments.
From a distance it may look like a confusing mass of abstraction, but step into the painting and move your eyes around, stopping every few inches, and you will see worlds inside of worlds—each with their own uniqueness.
I often create one abstract, surreal world inside another. Depending on how you look at it the piece can be experienced in many different ways. A slight shift in perspective and you've got a brand new piece in front of you.
☀︎ How the creating happens ---->>
I paint and then I draw. The process of painting is largely a matter of making a color palette decision. The most thought goes into this part. What color do I feel? The rest is pretty intuitive. I work fairly quickly to create flat textures using multiple mixed media techniques I've learned through years and years of happy accidents ;) I flip and turn the surface until the drips and bleeds make my eyes happy. This is all done as the prep for the drawing. Through the years I've learned and have come to trust that the apparent randomness of the paint turns out not to be random at all. It dictates the drawing with hidden messages that I'm (sometimes obsessively) determined to bring out in ink for you to see. It's as though the story is predetermined and I must be true to what it's saying. I look to bring forward the message that the paint is speaking or what I'm seeing in it using my gift of Pareidolia. I study the piece in each direction looking for its story and ultimately deciding- which way is up. Once the direction has been determined, I then explore the surface with pen and ink and bring the piece to life.
☀︎ There is so much to SEE and DISCOVER --->>
You'll find my work has lots of faces. That's because I tend to see faces and creatures in shapes. I'm a day dreamer, a cloud and shadow watcher. My mind naturally forms shapes into creatures. I call these creatures my "sensitive creatures".
Thank you for taking the time to read about my process and work. It makes me happy to connect so if you have a comment, questions, or just wanna say hey! please do.
